“Historic, beautiful and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

We have now stayed in this hotel twice, and I would certainly visit again. The rooms are original and beautiful (a far cry from identikit 'big brand' hotel decor). Each has antique furniture and paintings of the forest. We found our rooms quiet, spacious and the beds very comfortable, rooms opening out onto the cobbled courtyard. There were only three working channels on the TV – but then if a full satellite TV selection is what you seek from a hotel, why not just stay at home? The discrete and helpful staff went out of their way to ensure that we had a relaxing stay. The breakfasts are good, with fresh coffee and good croissants and bread, and the location fantastic, right opposite the chateaux. A lovely stay as ever.

“Manifique!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

I had the greatest time made possible by Philippe and his hotel personnel. Nothing was too much for them and they assisted me with my travel arrangements to and from Paris, helped me make informed decisions about places I wanted to visit and even made me a lovely cup of tea most evenings before I went to bed (it reminded me of home). The rooms and bathrooms were newly renovated and always clean. I loved the soap they used - no cheap stuff here. The breakfast was beautifully laid out every morning with fresh croissants, juice and fruit (just to name a few of the items to choose from). Philippe and his personnel even advised me to visit the local produce market on a Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, which was worth it. The palace is across the road from the hotel and even the bus stops right in front of the hotel which takes you to the train station and back. Francois/Francine (not sure of the spelling) recommended a couple of restaurants and I must say all of them were worth the money and time. I would recommend this hotel to all my friends and family.

“The only place to stay in Fontainebleau!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2010

L'Hotel de Londres in Fontainebleau is the perfect location for a stay in this small city. We had a twin bedded room on the ground floor off of the courtyard. We were allowed to check in early with no problem (We had flown into France overnight and driven to Fontainebleau.) The owner was efficient, very proper, and just welcoming enough. (One French review calls him guindé - uptight. I don't need someone falling all over me when I check in.)
Our room was immaculate, and was decorated with lovely old furniture and wonderful patterns - although there were no bedspreads, just white duvets. The bathroom (a shower we asked for) was done in sparkling marble and new fixtures, and the shower was great.
The hotel is across the street from the palace which we could see when we sat in the salon and read in the evening. In the morning, the owner directed us to the only table in the window that overlooked the palace. We felt like royalty eating the copious breakfast while gazing on le Palais de Fontainebleau.
We paid 8 euros to park in the gated lot adjacent to the hotel. The owner helped us with our bags when we left and didn't mention that we were a half hour late leaving that morning.(We overslept due to jetlag.)
If ever I return to Fontainebleau, I will definitely stay at the Hotel de Londres again.

“Delightful hotel, warm stylish and authentically French.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2010

As my husband was working at INSEAD for five days we wanted a comfortable, safe and well located hotel. The Londres was all this and very much more. Much care and attention to detail has gone into the furnishing and running of this hotel by the family which has owned it for several generations. There was always someone at the front desk (usually the owner) who was polite, helpful and friendly but in a non-invasive manner. The downstairs sitting room and breakfast room were stylishly and comfortably furnished and seemed to glow in a warm and welcoming way. Our room, (I think Room 11 second floor) overlooked the Chateau forecourt and it was a delight to watch the changing colours throughout the day and night. The room was nicely decorated and very spacious with the little sitting and dressing areas making it very comfortable for a longer stay. Breakfast was excellent with a pleasant outlook enabling me to watch the people of Fontainebleau coming and going in the morning.
The position was excellent; just across from the Chateau and its beautiful gardens where I spent a lot of time, just around the corner from the main street and pedestrian shopping areas and on the route to INSEAD which was just a short walk away. All in all it could not have been better and we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Fontainebleau because of this.
We ate mostly casual meals in different restaurants but the stand out restaurant was Croquembouche as recommended by the owner. The people were lovely and the food was excellent.
The Londres is a beautifully run and maintained hotel and the owners show great respect and care for their clients. I highly recommend it.

“Full of charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2010

Stayed one night. We had originally booked the family room, but as the bathroom is not yet completely renovated we were given the family room and the adjoining #10 with a shared bathroom, so we had three double beds in all! The rooms are on the middle floor, and have a little balcony and both have a superb view over the Palace The rooms are bright and full of charm, bathrooms new and clean. Breakfast room is delightful and also looks over palace. We opted to have a coffee only with no problems, otherwise the usual continental breakfast is available for 12 euros, Parking is just outside and locked at night. Hosts were very friendly. Lots of eateries down the road. A perfect stay!
