Much better than I feared from reading some earlier reviews. The room was good - not huge but perfectly adequate. We were at the back looking out over the lovely courtyard, so it was quiet even though the hotel is in the centre of town. The only noise was on the one evening when diners were sitting outside to eat.
Having said that, the rooms were nothing like as grand as the public areas, and you would be disappointed if you expected them to be.
The quoted price was 165 euros a night without breakfast (breakfast being quoted as 13 euros a head) but in fact we only paid 126 euros including breakfast for two. My review would have been much more critical if we had paid full price! The price we paid is still quite high for the room we got - but it may be typical for the area, which is quite close to Paris.

I organized a business event for the Global and EMEA finance teams of a global business travel company near Fontainebleau and booked a block of 43 rooms at the Napoleon Hotel as accomodations. The service of the hotel staff was excellent. The Napoleon's events contact was highly proactive, professional and supportive. Every request was positively answered and potential problems regarding organization were anticipated and efficiently managed. The hotel events contact was also instrumental and proactive in the organization of a group outing at an nearby establishement (informal billards tournament at the Bill'Arts café). This event was also a big success with my collegues.

The hotel itself is located just next to the Fontainebleau chateau in the center of the old city. It is relatively small (less than 60 total rooms) and the rooms, while well appointed (minibar, flatscreen tv, etc), are also on the small side.

There is a lovely terrace/courtyard. We organized a predinner cocktail for 50 people on this terrace. The hotel restaurant, "La Table des Maréchaux" is also very nice and quite comfortable and our group dinner there also went well.

The negative reviews on this site regarding this hotel give an inaccurate picture of this establishment. My group had a really good experience and I have no hesitation in recommending the Napoleon Hotel to anyone interested in visiting Fontainebleau.

Very tired, rooms scruffy and was not clean, bathroom basic and water pressure low. On the second night the lift was out of order but the hotel failed to display a notice on the ground floor, the stair case is twisty and the carpet is thread bare. I heard after checking out that the local fire department had serious concerns how guests on the 4th floor would escape. Thank goodness there was no fire! Not worth 160 euros per night.
