“Tired, sad and just makes average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

This is now an aging hotel that is showing all the signs of advanced aging. The only saving grace is the restaurant which produces reasonable quality hotel food with a hint of international emphasis which pleases to a degree. The rooms are particularly showing signs of age, with stained and worn carpets, scuffed walls and electrcal fittings that are unsafe and falling out of the fixtures. All of this comes at a not too cheap price either with rates which are up there and in my opinion not worth it. The hotel is also quite a way out of town which may not be an issue in summer but in cooler/wetter months is or can be. The restaurant is good for a hotel, with an inviting bar and staff. There is a nice wood burning fire in reception and reception staff are professional but not friendly. My company uses this place a lot but next time I will try somewhere else until I hear they have upgraded to place.

Room Tip: Eat in town at Le Croqenbouche...excellent restaurant 10 mins from hotel.

“Spacious, comfortable, friendly with great service.”

I stayed in this hotel for a few nights when I was on business. It was a little quirky to find in this wonderful town with streets going in all different directions, but is well worth it. From the moment I stepped up to the front desk to check-in, I never encountered anyone on the staff who wasn't completely friendly and willing to make my stay pleasant. The hotel is in a very pretty and safe neighborhood, a 5 min. walk to the entrance of the Chateau which is a wonderful place to go sightsee or picnic on the grounds. There are numerous restaurants and bars in the area. The one evening I ate in the restaurant at the Mercure it was very good with great service. The bar area is great after work where many people congregate. The rooms are large and comfortable with good television selections in both French and English -- ESPN America was especially welcome as they showed NFL football and major league baseball along with the other ESPN favorites. They also have a very good free wireless internet service. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a room in Fontainebleau.
