“Good hotel in Bastia but remember ... it's at the top of a hill”
My mate John and I stayed at this hotel in September and were very pleased with the room and service provided. Front desk was multi-lingual, friendly and obliging. They booked local restaurants for us and ordered taxis with very little notice. Room was v.clean & tidy. Twin beds were v.comfortable. Little or no noise so we slept well. 95 Euros for twin room with no breakfast, Lots of places (down the hill and into the town) nearby to get pastries, coffee etc.
We stayed here having come in off the ferry from Nice. Ferry Info Desk told us 20 mins walk but forgot to say that it's uphill and quite a struggle pulling a large suitcase. Car Hire are back down the hill not far from ferry terminal so we walked down the following morning, collected the car then made use of The Best Westerns underground car park until we moved on to St. Florent, Calvi, Corte, Porto Vecchio, CampoMoro and Ajaccio. Beautiful Island. Remember to visit beaches at Palombaggia. Bastia has a nice feel to it and I would have liked to spend a bit longer there. We ate at two great restaurants - Grazie Mille in Place du Marche (lady owner is a fab host.husband is head chef) and Table du Marche in same square. (Tripadvisor contributors do not rate this restaurant but we found food and service v.good). A Mandra was closed on a Monday evening. One last thing - we left a painting (in a cardboard tube) in the room and I emailed the hotel as soon as we got back to the UK and they'd not only found it but posted it to my UK address. My mate will be so pleased when I surprise him!
