Pleasantly surprised by the high standards of this modern but basic, no frills hotel. It was bright, spotlessly clean, the service always friendly and helpful. Room was a little small, and storage space very limited, but the two air-conditioned singles we had booked were, as requested, smoke-free, had wide beds (4ft) and the best view in Ajaccio, across the marina to the mountains on other side of the bay - and at no extra cost! The bathroom was also small but superb - latest plumbing, everything worked faultlessly and shower was good and strong and well-screened so no pools of water on the floor. Nice wide-screen TV. Breakfast buffet rather expensive at €12, but huge choice, generous and everything good quality. You could use room service or take tray up to roof terrace with stunning view. Lifts and air-conditioning worked, and were silent. Pleasant reception area with newspapers.
Downside was the location. There was no restaurant, and to reach the ones on the marina you had to cross two very busy roads. It was also about a mile from the centre of town, more from beaches - a long trek in temperatures around 30ºC. We bought a carnet of 10 tickets and used local buses, but they cease after 7.00pm and taxis few and far between.
Ajaccio is a pleasant town, but disappointed to find Fesch art museum closed until June 2010 and a section of rail track to Bastia and Calvi undergoing long-term engineering works, so part of journey is by coach, not the trinighellu.
