“Very good value and stunning view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2009

Pleasantly surprised by the high standards of this modern but basic, no frills hotel. It was bright, spotlessly clean, the service always friendly and helpful. Room was a little small, and storage space very limited, but the two air-conditioned singles we had booked were, as requested, smoke-free, had wide beds (4ft) and the best view in Ajaccio, across the marina to the mountains on other side of the bay - and at no extra cost! The bathroom was also small but superb - latest plumbing, everything worked faultlessly and shower was good and strong and well-screened so no pools of water on the floor. Nice wide-screen TV. Breakfast buffet rather expensive at €12, but huge choice, generous and everything good quality. You could use room service or take tray up to roof terrace with stunning view. Lifts and air-conditioning worked, and were silent. Pleasant reception area with newspapers.

Downside was the location. There was no restaurant, and to reach the ones on the marina you had to cross two very busy roads. It was also about a mile from the centre of town, more from beaches - a long trek in temperatures around 30ºC. We bought a carnet of 10 tickets and used local buses, but they cease after 7.00pm and taxis few and far between.

Ajaccio is a pleasant town, but disappointed to find Fesch art museum closed until June 2010 and a section of rail track to Bastia and Calvi undergoing long-term engineering works, so part of journey is by coach, not the trinighellu.

“unpleasant stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2009

The staff was rude and smileless, I had to park the car on the street altough I reserved a parking place. When I shew them my reservation, they didn t apologize for the inconvenient, they just told me to park outside the hotel.
The room was small and the furniture poor, quite similar to an hospital. Not even a mirror in the room and the room was dark, even after switching on all the lamps. The view is not that great,
after the first night the room was not cleaned at my arrival at 2 pm. When I saw the Chamber maid she told me that she tought i was still in the room, because I went out in the morning without giving the key/card to the reception.
Many two star family run accomodations in which I stayed were far better than this hotel whose prices are quite expensive and whose staff is not professional.

“Nice hotel facing the harbour”

We stayed 2 nights in Ajaccio at the Mercure Hotel. The staff is very friendly and they did not discuss when I asked for a seaside room. The view from there is nice and the trafic noise is not disturbing at night.

The room was very very clean with a bit of luxury (flat TV screen, small lounge). A very comfortable bed and a "normal" bedroom.

Unfortunately, the breakfast is pretty expensive and it is worth to get out in town.

Definitely, we will stay there again.

“Ajaccio Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2004

STayed 2 nights in Ajaccio Corsica and found it a busy interesting city with Farmers Market and Napolean Museums. Bring a French dictionary as very few speak English and the menu's were the hardest to interperate. Stayed in a 3 star hotel ,Venedetta, and a 2 star hotel, Mercure Ajaccio, and both were excellent including cleanliness and breakfast. Recommend them both. Had a great time in Corsica visiting Bonofacio and Portavecchio also. All are unique and have there own special features but I think that Bonofacio with its limestone cliffs and it's "high city" was my favorite. Can't review any other hotels as I was staying on a sailboat.
