“Avoid on Sundays”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2007

We were using this hotel as a stop on a longer trip after being let down by another hotel in the area we booked this hotel because it had 4 restaurants and disabled access. First problem is the reception is on the first floor and the old cage type lift was not working. Out of the four restaurants only the seedy bar was open. The hotel staff said there may be somewhere open in town but didn't know or care. The hotel is near the station and marshalling yard which started work at 4 in morning and woke us with the noise. Breakfast was just about OK. We would avoid this hotel, especially on Sundays!!!! An experience NOT to be repeated!!!

“Not good”

Arrived in Troyes late. The Comtes de Champagne was sadly full. They directed us to the Grand. Bad move. Room was on a grim corridor. View into a courtyard with a plastic palm tree. Bathroom hadn't been upgraded for a very long time. Double bed had this bizarre portico over it. Decided not to stay for breakfast. Reception reminded me of a fleapit in the backstreets of Cairo I once stayed in when a poor student. Dear oh dear.

“Avoid the Grand”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2005

A rather tired railway hotel which has seen better days. The rooms are not particularly cheap at €60-€80 for a double with bathroom and breakfast is an additional €8. Breakfast itself was appalling with bitter perculated coffee from a leaking urn and rather chewy croissants.

The hotel is part of a large block which incorporates a couple of reasonable looking restaurants, but watch out for the disco. We were disturbed by about 30 noisy punters being kicked out at around 4 am Sunday morning, some of whom proceeded to have a fight. The police were quite useless and we were worried about our car which was parked in the hotel bay. I suspect this is a regular weekend occurrance.

Quite honestly, the whole thing needs pulling down and in the meantime you'd find better value at the local Ibis. I will also be writing to the hotel about this when I have found their website.

“Faded grandeur”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2004

The Grand was probably just that 50-years ago, but sadly no longer.
Rooms and the hotel in general are past their best.
Our room had a comfortable large bed, TV, writing table and a mini-bar. No aircon which was a problem in the heat.
There was a small bathroom and seperate WC.
There is secure parking though and it is just outside the railway station, about a 10-minite walk from the centre of town.
Breakfast was a rushed cold buffet with the usual fresh breads and pastries.
The hotel has morphed a new Patiotel alongside and this may be the better option but for one night as we stopped off en-route south the Grand was acceptable.
Plus points were the price, just 60 or so Euros in September 2004 and the staff were friendly.
