“Perfectly sufficient”

We only stayed one night and it was totally fine. There was 4 girls in a quad room (2x double beds) me and my friend were lucky and got the comfy bed. My other 2 friends weren't as lucky. I think there was a little bit of roll together.
No english TV - but we weren't there to watch TV so didn't matter.

“Clean, but small rooms; noise could be a problem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

My wife and I spent a night at the Hotel de la Cathedrale. Arrival and check-in were no particular problem. We lucked into a parking space on Rue Libergier, not 20 feet from the entrance. It was a pay space, but we only needed it for a few minutes.

Language was not a problem, and neither of us found the man owner to be a pompous anything. In fact, he spent quite a while advising us on visiting the Champagne cellars. We arrived in the afternoon, and therefore pickings were a bit slim since many of the cellars require reservations. He made two or three phone calls to check availability, and then gave us a city map on which he wrote directions to the various caves that were open. He spoke no English whatsoever, but I took it as an inability rather than a refusal. Perhaps he knows a few words but is hesitant to try to use them. His wife, as well, spoke no English but was extremely pleasant and helpful. She recommended two restaurants for dinner. Unfortunately, one of the places (La Vigneraie) was totally packed and couldn't take us, but the other (La Table d'Anna) had vacant tables and we had a very nice dinner there.

The rooms are a bit small, but after all, this is a small independent hotel in France, not a Hilton in the United States. Actually, our room (#23, I think) was quite small, but it had its own bathroom (relatively rare in a lot of Europe). The other unfortunate thing was that we got a fair amount of street noise at uncivilized hours. It didn't bother me, but it did cause my wife some problems. Oh, and there's no elevator, so if your party has six suitcases each, I wouldn't recommend this place.

Breakfast the next morning was simple but delicious. The two owners were pleasant and cheerful throughout our stay.

Bottom line: I'd stay there again, no question. The location is wonderful, and the people are very friendly and pleasant. As long as you are a sound sleeper who travels relatively light and can walk up and down stairs, I'd say go for it.

“really tight space, small room, clean bath, nice bakery right across”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2010

we stayed 1 night, space is really tight, and I have traveled a lot, to many places, this room has got to be the smallest! But bath is inside room, which is a plus. We actually love the bakery, right across the street, incredible tarts and baguette. The man owner (not his wife) is a pompous *sshole. Right off, Said will only speak French, Refused to speak anything but French, and that with a "Bon Soir" in French from us, we attempted French too, but he got frustrated and just pointed us upstairs. Why open for biz to travelers if you think French is the ONLY way to speak?? His wife is really nice and pleasant though. Bath is clean and convenient. We love different cultures and difference nuances in each, but every now and then, it is so frustrating to come across self-centered, ignorant pitiful fools, even more pitiful since he has lived longer and seen more of life.

“Comfortable and adequate, in a great location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

Very welcoming staff despite the language difference. Quick and easy check-in, and although there's no lift/elevator we didn't really find this a problem.
Excellent location - the cathedral is literally at the end of the street, (in fact, we missed the hotel first time we drove by as we were looking at the cathedral!) and we found a great restaurant less than five minutes' walk away.
Parking could be a problem if in your own car as we were. We arrived late in the evening and even then found it tricky to stop just while we checked in.
The room was clean and tidy with two firm double beds and a flat screen TV - and crucially it wasn't noisey in the slightest. Bathroom could've done with a bit of a make-over; the shower head was tied up where the wall bracket had broken but it worked ok, with loads of hot water.
Breakfast wasn't huge, but served with a smile and all very presentable.
Overall the Hotel de Cathedrale suited our needs for the weekend - a simple place to stop between two days of motorsport.
It's a little more expensive than the usual motel chains across France (Ibis, Etap etc), but the location makes up for this.

“Sleep deprivation in grotty room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

We came to Reims with our 3 young children and had booked this hotel on line. Although the location is good the hotel is grotty and smelly. All 5 of us were booked into one tiny room. The wallpaper was hanging off the walls and there was mould on all the walls. The room smelt rotten. The bathroom had a window that was so rotten it could not open or shut. It was just awful. Although not the fault of the hotel, its location meant that all night long the youths of the town congregated in the streets outside and shouted, sung and raced in cars up and down the road. There was noise all night long. Don't stay here.
