“Clean, no frills , inexpensive acomodation”

Close to town, quite pleasant walk past the champagne houses. Free on site parking, room perfectly adequate and in fact the only one of several hotels that had hot drink faclilities in the room. No complaints up till we had breakfast and we were chastised in front of other guests for stitting in the wrong place. Still a very good budget hotel and I would go back...now I know where to sit.

Room Tip: Front is quieter than the back

“Good value, all you need”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2011

Epernay and the Champagne area are expensive areas to visit. This hotel gives you the basics you need - just don't expect luxury. We stayed for 5 nights and I think that was about enough. There appeared to be a lot of people using it as a base for a couple of days.

The room was adequate (although the wardrobe space was lacking). There was a "adjoining" door to the room next door which was a bit disconcerting but no-one could have got in unless both parties opened their doors. We were on the ground floor and had patio doors which was handy to walk straight out to car park.

The cost was for room only but we did try breakfast and it was very good for a continental selection.

The hotel is located just out of town (probably a 10 min walk) but this is a pleasant stroll past the grand champagne houses. It's a flat walk so providing you don't mind being out of town then it's fine. If you want to be in the main town and stumble into a restaurant then this would not be for you.

The town itself is fairly quiet at night and if you want some life I would probably recommend you try Reims.

We found several good restaurants, visiting the Champagne houses is great - try one of the smaller ones because we preferred the champagne offered there compared to the more famous house which cost more!!

Best was the price and the fact you got tea and coffee in the room (a rarity for France)! Also they have a free car park which was not always possible in the town.
Worst was probably the noise that reverberated from the corridor with people coming and going.

“No frills, but convenient location and fair value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2009

We stayed 2 nights at the Kyriad Epernay, with a last minute booking. The price, location (an easy walk past the major Champagne Houses to the town centre), and availability of off-street parking were the main reasons for selecting this hotel.
The room met our expectations in terms of facilities, cleanliness, and space. It represented good value for the price. The staff both at reception and in the restaurant were very helpful.
We ate in the restaurant (buffet breakfasts and dinner) and found the food more than satisfactory.
Free wireless WiFi is available.

“Good location, needs updating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2008

Last minute booking direct, and it provided basic accomodation within easy walk of the town centre, where I strongly suggest you eat and visit.

As other have said the rooms are basic and need updating although the hotel staff were ok and the car park so so, it's a cheaper and better located that the campanile, but not as good. Average for a one night stop over, we saw a B&B for the same price in the town which I think we'll try next time!

“Kyriad was Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2008

The Kyriad is just up the road from the Mercier Champagne House, so is ideally situated if you have been on one of the tours and sampled a few of the bubblies on offer. It is in the economical category and therefore not particularly luxurious, The room was clean and functional, with the rare provision of coffee/tea making facilities; parking was in the hotel carpark - but it was the food which we were most pleasantly surprised with.
A limited choice, but who cares when it is good - we both had different things and were both pleased with the result - eg great terrine from the buffet, salmon, ripe cheeses, dessert, excellent coffee - the sort of food we had been waiting for in France.
Breakfast was just as good - muesli, fresh fruit, yoghurt etc - at last something a bit better than the standard croissant and jam.
We would happily stay there again.

  • Liked — Food - dinner and breakfast
  • Disliked — small room - but this is usual
