A "double confort" room for the night had a very pokey bathroom and felt quite basic. The rooms are definitely in need of redecoration. In the plus column, the restaurant served a good breakfast and the staff were very helpful in recommending where to eat in Tours. A short walk up to the bridge revealed some lovely bars and restaurants.

This hotel was a convenient stop off on a drive to the South of France for a night and was not too expensive. An excellent location as both very central to Tours and just off the Péage, with underground parking close nearby.

It was a convenient stay, but I wouldn't call this a destination in itself.

We have bicycled along the Loire for the last three summers, but this was the first year that we ventured into Tours. We ended a spectacular 500 km biking holiday along and around the Loire in Tours at Hotel L'Univers, and it was the only regret of our trip. For two weeks, we stayed in gorgeous, impeccably clean one and two star inns, local gites and bed and breakfasts, all less expensive than L'Univers.

Unquestionably, the lobby of the hotel is lovely, as is the breakfast room, and the location of the hotel is perfect. We found our room dark, old, severely in need of a thorough cleaning and replacement of curtains, lamp shades and ceiling light fixtures. Luckily we were just there for a night before catching the TGV back to Paris.

The moral of the story to me was never trust the star rating system, as I would not give this hotel even two stars let alone four. Don't believe me though, take a look at several of the snapshots we took.

This hotel tries to be luxurious and have old world charm but could really use a good clean and update. Our room was interesting - had tapestry on the ceiling and lots of heavy wood furniture. It had an odd set of interior shutters you could open from inside the bathroom to look out into the bedroom. Not sure what the purpose was but it added to the interest of the room. It was in a good, central location however and as we only stayed one night, we found the hotel more than adequate.

My wife and I recently spent 4 nights at the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.  The staff was very friendly and helpful to our many questions.  Breakfast was included with our room and was served in a delightful dining room with a great view of the main street in Tours.  The hotel has a great location steps from the train station and close to many restaurants as well as the fascinating old town area.  Our room was quite large by European standards and was clean and well furnished with beautiful antiques.  We would gladly return.
