“A good place for motorists”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

I put motorists in the title for the sake of train travelers. We stayed here for only one night as a stopover from the south on the way to Caen. This was our first experience at driving in France, so finding a hotel with its own parking lot was important to us.

We have no complaints about the hotel itself. The only negative comment I would make concerns the surroundings. There are no amenities nearby. It was Saturday night and my husband didn't want to drive to Old Town because he thought we wouldn't find parking. I myself was not feeling at all well and didn't feel like taking a long walk to find a place to eat. We ended up getting sandwiches at a gasoline station store.

I can't believe the comments that some reviewers have about the breakfast. We stayed at hotels where 9 euros provided much less than the breakfast here. Since there was no place nearby to walk for breakfast, we had the breakfast at the hotel and were pleasantly surprised. In addition to the usual coffee, juice, croissant and bread, they offered sliced deli meat, cheeses, yogurts, a variety of cereals, and bless them, hard-boiled eggs!

There is supposed to be a charge for parking after 9 a.m., but I don't know the amount because we left before then.

“A normal, ok hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

The hotel was fairly priced, fairly comfort, fairly breakfast and so on. An ordinary hotel in an ordinary city.. But the cathedral was lovely :-)

“Typical French Business Hotel - OK as an overnight stop”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2011

Sat by the bank of the river Loire, this is an adequate overnight stop. The rooms are a bit small, even by French standards, but clean and well maintained. Staff are friendly and helpful and there's adequate and secure parking. No restaurant and it is a good 20 minutes walk to the old part of Orleans where there are plenty of places to eat.

Good breakfast selection

“Economic stay in Orleans but don't hope for breakfast.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011 via mobile

Nice building fronting river with nice free parking as advertised. Interior dated but clean. Comfy bed and good night sleep but toilet vent to bedroom?!
10mins stroll along river to centre. Friendly stuff at reception but horrible breakfast with no coffee and tea served upon requeste with old bread. Very disappointed French breakfast and didn't bother for the second morning.

“One night ok - two nights - no thanks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2009

A Hotel with a grand past, sadly now jaded. The approach to the Escala looks impressive, a white coloured building with it's large archway leading to the car park at the rear, and situated on the opposite side of the road to the Loire river The foyer is also quite imposing, plush carpet and tastful decor.

The rooms are different story though, they're clean enough but very basic and bit worn and tatty. The shower in our room was a nightmare, more water went on the floor than went down the plughole, making the floor slippery and dangerous! The beds could certainly do with replacement as well, our was like sleeping on a hammock, we woke up with bad backs. Prices are reasonable here though.

The staff were friendly and helpful and there is a bar area. Parking is reasonably secure on the spacious car park at the rear of the hotel. Breakfast is charged extra and there's nowhere nearby to slip out to so factor that into the cost of a nights stay
