I have stayed in a few hotels in Orleans on business trips (Mercure, Novotel) and by far, this one is the best. It is clean, very nice, a full shower!, staff is very kind. There is a full shower, nice towels, good linens and a great breakfast buffet. Hotel D'Arc is centrally located so you can walk to most places within 10 minutes. There is a mall basically right next door and there are many restaurants, shops and such right around you. Come stay there! Only thing... you have to speak some French or keep a dictionary close at hand - staff speaks very little english.

The mostly remodeled version of the hotel is GREAT! Large rooms for Europe. Very nicely equipped. Nice breakfast (although bakery across the street is much better for the price). Staff is wonderful, they spoke English very well and were very attentive to our needs. This is THE place to stay in Orleans, right in the middle of town, near the train station, tram goes by the front door, mall next door, even a McDonald's if you must have it around the corner.

My husband and I had high hopes for this hotel, but they were
completely shattered. We knew the town well, and this seemed by my
internet research to be the nicest one in Orleans-what a joke. The
hotel was under renovation, and we literally had to walk over guys
doing tile as you went in the front door. Our room smelled of smoke
very badly, which obviously is a european thing, but we had been told
their were some rooms non-smoking. To make a LONG story short, the
"closet" smelled of BO, it was so disgusting we slept fully clothed (we
had no where else to go that night), the decor hadn't changed since I
would guess the 70's, we had no working toilet, and no cold or warm
water. Now, normally it is the opposite problem, but we were both
scalded and our next days' plans was severly delayed due to waiting for
a plumber so we could shower. I ended up getting in a pretty heated
argument the next day with the manager-I speak broken French but my
brother lives there and is French, so he helped a lot! The manager
refused to give us even a discount, and I intend to get my money back.
This hotel is NOT a 3-star by any means, and even if they fully
renovate it will still be owned by unprofessional and rude people.

*We also discovered when we returned that the black things we found in our ears and hair the next day after our stay were "bed bugs". I can't possibly see how this hotel could be any worse.

Good stuff: Staff very friendly/helpful and spoke fluent English, nicely redone salle de bain included tile and good lighting, municiple (pay) garage parking available across the street, good central location downtown, right on public transit, restaurants nearby, excellent breakfast on site (extra charge), superb towels. Needs inprovement: hotel was quite "down at the heels." Carpets were badly worn and textiles (besides towels) seemed tired and faded. With windows open, loud garbage pick-up at 6 a.m. awoke us. WC in our room had a swinging door - little more than stall type - which provided inadequate privacy when sharing a room.
