“The restaurant is more important than the rooms of guests ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

The town of Chenonceaux will not go beyond a main street and a train station. But every tourist goes there because of the castle ...
Perhaps because of this Hotel Du Roy gives more attention to his restaurant to the rooms of guests.
Situated less than 500 meters from the entrance to the castle, is an excellent option because parking is free.Perhaps the high turnover that prevents it remodeled the rooms.
Ideal for a night, although people who work there are very helpful and polite. The breakfast was excellent.

“Quality control: scrape dead flies off wall before new guests arrive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

Price good; room pokey; bathroom in need of attention (shower broken); squashed flies on wall not good. I understand that life involves flies, but how did housekeeping miss them? Underwhelmed. If this hotel were anywhere else....

“Good hotel but rooms need updating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

The hotel is really picturesque and welcoming.Location - Excellent , a couple of hundred metres from the entrance to the chateau.
Rooms – The annex accommodation badly needs refurbishing. Rooms are smallish and the decor needs updating. The bathrooms desperately need updating.
Breakfast - Buffet with a good choice.
Restaurant - Excellent food , served in a pleasant garden - formidable!
Staff - All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Their lack of English and our lack of French resulted in their persevering with great patience.

“Budget hotel within walking distance of the Chateu”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

We stayed here for one night on our way to the Dordogne, I knew it was a budget hotel but saying that it was fairly good value for money. It was quiet and reasonably comfortable. The shower was not good, a dribble and no curtain so the water good go over onto the floor and not high enough for my partner. The stairs and hallway were not too clean, a bit tatty. The staff though were very friendly , as in other places in France listening to our not so good French and helping us out. The meal was good for the price and I would recommend it for what it was and what I expected for the price.

“Charming little big place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2010

person found this review helpful

Chenonceaux is a tiny little village full of charm. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the Chateau and railway.

Hostel Du Roy has a restaurant serving basic but tasty food and the staff are all very helpful, but their English is very limited.

Our room (number 38) was very clean with new towels, but, bizarrely, no shower curtain so the floor got flooded when washing. It could do with decorating, as it looks like it was last done in 1962, but it sort of adds to it's quaint feel. There is a kettle in the room, but you have to buy tea/coffee making sachets at 60 cents from the reception.

If you are not looking for the Ritz and not bothered about asthetic appearances, the Hostel Du Roy is a nice friendly, no frills place to stay.
