“Surprisingly pleasant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

Booked this hotel on way to Calais in order to avoid going through Paris. Very impressed by the room and facilities for the price paid. Used the restaurant for diner and breakfast, service and quality very good with several options on the menu, rather than a main course should have stuck to the all you can eat salad bar as choice and quality was extremely good. One thing the hotel was missing was a lounge to sit and have a drink, they are missing a trick here as everyone returned to their rooms following diner, therefore no one spending more money. A bench to sit on near the bar was available but not very inviting. Would certainly stay again.

“Basic Hotel has had a good makeover and free wifi”

We stayed in two rooms as a stopover en route to Southern France. The hotel has been refurbished and was a very pleasant experience, the rooms being clean, the staff friendly and the food good value. The free wifi worked well. The location could be better signposted.

“Very Basic”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2008

Booked 2 rooms to find 1 toilet very unclean and had to be moved. Rooms had cobwebs on ceilings. Beds clean and comfortable but thin walls.Food was average but service very poor and wrong orders taken. Would not stay again hence 2 out of 5.

“Good value stopover”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2007

We stayed here for two nights en route south. The hotel is in a commercial estate on edge of town and we didn't find it easily. It's behind a BMW showroom on the main Paris road, off a roundabout. We found the staff friendly and helpful.

The rooms are on three floors in one block, no lift. We requested a non-smoking room and ours was on the top floor. Room was typical motel Campanile style and well presented. Some traffic noise from nearby road.

Campanile uses external auditors to monitor quality and this hotel justly earned five stars on most ratings.

We ate in the restaurant and the food was good. The buffet was attractive and good quality. The breakfast buffet was also good value, even oranges you could squeeze to make fresh juice!

  • Liked — Good value
  • Disliked — Lack of clear signposting and no lift

“Just hope it's not too hot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2007

We stayed here for one night as a stopover on our way to somewhere further South in France.

It was a very hot day when we arrived and this made it a very uncomfortable night. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, and due to the layout of the rooms, keeping the blinds (there are no curtains) and windows open during the night is not an option. Basically every room has one large window which opens directly onto the walkway which connects all the rooms; so to leave the window open at night would remove any security you may have.

We were stiflingly hot all night as a result.

On a more positive note, the rooms were clean and well-furnished albeit in a basic style - but that is what you expect at Campanile. It is an inexpensive, basic hotel.

  • Liked — Clean, good value
  • Disliked — No aircon
