Stayed here as part of a 10 day road trip through France. Azay le Rideau is a perfect location for visiting the Loire Chateaux and even in May was quite busy. There are several hotels, this is, as far as we could see, the only 3 star property. All the hotels look typically French, so the rooms are by some standards, very small. However, it is a comfortable and friendly location with secure parking and a very good breakfast buffet. The chateau in Azay is an easy 5 minute walk and there are plenty of restaurants in the town.
We did find the bed to be very hard and the pillows are also typically French (a rolled bolster and a single square, very soft pillow), but after visiting 5 chateau in 2 days, it hardly matters.
We did note that the staff spoke absolutely no English, so if you speak absolutely no French, take a phrase book. The usual English speakers technique of speaking loudly, slowly and in a faux francais accent didn;t seem to work either!
