“A Very Surprise Birthday - Pick1962”

I took my wife here for her Birthday in November. We have seen previous reviews, and as we love Burgundy (food, wine and people - but not necessarily in that order!!), I decided to spoil her. Spoil is an understatement here. The owners, Clive and Tanith are wonderful and very knowlegeable of the area (it is incidentally very much nearer to Beaune that Dijon). We were absolutely stunned by the work which they have put into this property. The finish is to an extraordinary standard, the welcome exceptional and the staff friendly and attentive. The food is Michelin quality (Chef has currently has one star which he continues to retain). We stayed in Bussiere Room - fabulous tasteful furniture, and a bath you could almost swim lenghths in - albeit it was circular. The grounds and surrounding area are beautiful. In its location, you could not beleive the experience here. It fully justifies the Andrew Harper award of Hideaway of the Year 2008. If you want peace and beauty, good food, and exceptional wine list - but it does sit in the finest wine producing area of the World, then give it a try. It was a very surprise birthday. I understand from my wife that we are going again, not booked yet, I just have to identify which of her birthdays we are going to celebrate!!

As someone who has travelled the world on business and been lucky enough to stay in some of the best hotels in the world, particularly in the Middle East, this was a wonderful experience from start to finish, truly high class French, truly resident oriented.

Room Tip: We loved our room (Bussiere). In fine quality are all individually planned to the highest standard...

“Beautiful place, beautiful grounds.”

We booked four nights in that wonderful place in December, the first two nights to include breakfast and gastronomic dinner, and the next two nights the Superior Bonneval room only. We were very well welcome in that cold day and needed a good rest after our flights from Jakarta and drive in from Paris, the first evening we had a lovely memorable dinner with a great burgundy wine, next morning breakfast very nice as well...we drove around all the way to Beaune had a late lunch there, got back late at the Abbaye and decided to skip dinner.. (not discounted) the next day we had to leave as our timing had changed.
We gave some laundry one morning and it all came back the same night stuffed in a bag rolled around not ironed and a bit wet...not good, what do you do with your clothes if you stay there for a few more days!

Room Tip: The Superior room Bonneval is not very large, I had a look at the Suites and they are much better

“This is a breathtaking place to stay...”

My family & I arrived late, after a long but exciting drive from Calais. I would say it was an adventure finding this abbey but wow was it worth it... the welcome was superb. Great attention to detail and the experience special, one we will never forget. It may not be on your route home or away but well worth the drive which is scenic and unforgettable.

“Magnificent”

This was one of the highlights of our four weeks in Europe. We had the five night package that included three dinners in their Michelin starred restaurant. Everything about the stay was fantastic. The restored buildings and grounds are magnificent, and we had the best weather when we stayed (have a look at the beautiful green and blue colours in the attached photo's.)
The location is great with easy access to both Dijon and Beaune. The restaurant degaustation menu's were fantastic and on our last night at the Abbaye the sommelier, on our request, was able to come up with a wine matching option that was supurb. On the recommendation of the Abbaye we undertook a private wine tour with Julie Steele which was a great way to visit some fantastic wine makers whilst avoiding the crowds. Overall a fantastic experience and will be a must for us to visit again next time we are back in Europe.

“Magical setting,extraordinary architecture,a wow experience”

Having stopped by the Abbaye de la Bussière to "take a look" during a brief excursion to purchase some Burgundy end of January 2011, we decided to take some clients and friends for a 2 night stay beginning of November. What a memorable experience! We and they were most impressed: the setting is magical, a magnificiently tendered park, an architectural gem and helpful, efficient service. Being French, we can only say that we take our hat off to such quality of restoration of our historic heritage and wish more people had the courage and strength and means to undertake similar enterprises. Being there on business to visit wineries, we did not have the pleasure to dine at the Abbaye, but the setting, the friendliness of the staff and the superb decor and comfort of the rooms was par none! Congratulations.
Also a perfect place from which to explore Burgundy!
