“review of a standard room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Just returned from 4 nights at this hotel. A review from someone who travels widely worldwide. If you are expecting a modern chain hotel, then this is not the place for you. This hotel is a traditional old building familiar in most of Dijon - great location by the way. I stayed in a standard room on the second floor - so cheapest they do and a good price. It was a typically Continental European size - small yes - bathroom and separate toilet bigger than the bed area. Fully rennovated bath and comfy bed. If you want to hang out in your room all day, yes you might want a bigger place. Flat screen TV but only French speaking channels. Breakfast was just fine - it is a European continental - big selection of breads, fruits, cold cuts, cheeses, scrambled eggs, cereals etc. But if you are expecting full English or American breakfast - no. Staff fluent in English and very nice, helpful. Hallways did smell musty - but rooms were no problem. Room service prompt and excellent food. In total, not sure what everyone is moaning about unless they were expecting the Hilton.

“Disappointing Rooms, Excellent Supper”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Don't be fooled by the gorgeous pictures on their own and partner websites of beautifully decorated, boutique styled rooms that you might expect from a 'Exclusive' hotel claiming to have completed a renovation. We could have been in an Ibis. The carpet was filthy, the fitted furniture hideous, and the room was freezing cold and we couldn't work out how to heat it. When I pointed out this advertising discrepancy (the decor) to the receptionist, he gave the impression of being barely able to care less, informing me that only some of the rooms (maybe ten, he vaguely calculated) had been renovated. And that they were at a different price. On the other hand, having just come from a terrible experience in Courchevel trying to get a chef in a very expensive hotel to prepare vegan food four nights running, the chef here excelled, producing a delicious and exquisitely presented vegan supper, and for an extremely reasonable 10 euros.

“Good location”

We had a small but adequate room in this hotel for a couple of nights and we found the staff friendly and helpful and the location, although about 20 minutes walk from the station, was only a short walk from the historic centre of dijon. The carpets were pretty dirty but the bathroom was clean and the hotel had character.
It was also close to some very good restaurants.

“Avoid this Hotel”

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night in October on the way to Reims, the 3 rd floor room was dirty, cramped and airless. The room was nothing like the pictured rooms.
The corridor from the lift looked like a condemned apartment block , filthly carpets and marked walls and was pitch black till the sensor turned the lights on leaving the lift.. The bathroom had been renovated but was poorly laid out and you could not stand at the toilet due to a angled ceiling above.
The breakfast room is an underground bunker decorated in 70's style.
This hotel got the award for the worst hotel on our 3 week tour of France.

“Not so Bon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

We travelled to this hotel on 30th September and first impressions are okay. The Receptionist was quite helpful and we were booked in fairly quickly. We were taken to the lift and told our room number. On exiting the lift the corridor was in complete darkness. We had to grope around the walls to find a light switch whereupon you get a quite dim light in the corridor that is painted a dark "battleship" grey. It was most unwelcoming and depressing. The room itself was okay, quite small and the mirrored door to the wardrobe was cracked quite extensively. The bathroom had been recently refurbished, but did not have any towel rails. Lighting within the room was quite low and only one chair was provided (there wasn't room for another). However the room had two very large wardrobes. We did eat at the hotel on one evening, but this was an organized dinner and we didn't have any choice in the meal, so cannot comment on the menus. The meal was fine. We did have some problems in the bar as they staff kept on insisting that they had no beer. However, when several more of the guests requested beer they eventually brought a barrel up from the cellars. So they did have the beer but were reluctant to sell it! We were also refused a gin and tonic during the meal (which was requested because we don't like wine). Also after the meal we were refused milk for the coffee and tea, as the chef had gone home and it was locked up! It wasn't that late, only around 11.45pm.
I would say that we have stayed a better hotels that cost the same or less. However, it was adequate for a couple of nights, but it is unlikely that we would return.
