After a week in Paris we took to TGV train to Dijon for a three night stay at the Sofitel. We were told is was a short walk from the Gare de Dijon, so off the train and out into the street to be confronted by a mess of road works. Extensive tram tracks are being laid around Dijon and I am sure when it is finished it will be a local asset, but at the time of our visit the mess did spoil our photos, plus it was a very bumpy ride for our suitcases over the pavement to the hotel - a 10 to 12 min walk away from the station.
The Sofitel Hotel is an impressive looking building and the staff at reception were prompt and obliging. Our room - 114 from memory was large and overlooking Darcy Place. At this time however, the tram track works spoilt the all the views from the two large windows.
For the price paid, the room although large. was ordinary, certainly not sumptuous as shown in the website photos. The large bed was very comfy and you could open the windows to get the fresh autumn air (again, not for the views). The bathroom needed an overhaul as well. Again it was a good size but needed alot of renovating.
Brekky was average and so were the wait staff. The cappucino was dreadful - why include it if it is not a good cappucino.
The position of the hotel to the old town is great and it was mainly for this reason plus the great looking photos on the website that she chose it.
Beware though, if you have to take a taxi back to the station with your suitcase because of the rain - ask the concierge what the cost ought be - we didn't, and it was expensive for such a short distance.
Room Tip: I would ask to see a room before taking one or ask for a room that does overlook the gardens.
