“Old style french 2*”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

Those of you who stayed in French 2* hotels know what to expect. Outdated furniture, bathroom in need for renovation, not really clean and expect some mold and dust. But the prices are low, and if you are lucky, the premises you stay in have a lot of character. For me this hotel can be a model for this kind of French 2*. I had a large room on a courtyard, a litte desk, a small TV and a large but ugly bathroom. The reception is closed after 11 pm., and if you have the bad luck that some guest before you closed the lock twice, you will find yourself on the street banging the door until someone hears you and opens it. But if you are only paying 52 euro for a large room, breakfast included, you have little reason to complain. Still, Dijon is a very nice city and perhaps you might consider to pay a little extra, for a 'real' hotel.

“Friendly Hotel in a City that is a Gem”

Our stay with my architect daughter was very pleasant in a very quaint hotel, located in the heart of Dijon, a beautiful old French town in the heart of the Bourgundy wine country area. The Hotel is housed in an old building, very well kept, clean, and quiet Although the rooms and bathrooms are small, they have the basics for a comfortable stay. The staff was very gentle and helpful. Breakfast is not included in the price, but is is affordable and nice.

“Nice little hotel in prime location”

Le Chambellan is a nice little hotel in a very good location offering rooms at a reasonable rate (we paid 51 Euros for a double room).

Pros:
* nice building, courtyard is nice in summer
* intimate atmosphere
* breakfast available
* right in the heart of Dijon
* decent sized, clean, warm room

Cons:
* breakfast not included in price
* could do with a bit of a reno
* no free parking (but there is plenty of pay-and-display parking available right across the street in front of the big cathedral)

“UGH - move on!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2010

We were looking for a hotel that was a budget option. This seemed great since it does have a good location. WRONG. The room we were given had mold in the bathroom, the shower head had fallen off the wall and was not fixed. The window was small and overlooked another room that had smokers right outside of it. When we complained that said that this was one of their best rooms. You can do better than this place in Dijon.

“good value, close to centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2010

The place is no frills, but for 33 euros a night total (without shower in room) for a double room, how can you really go wrong? Cheapest place in France pretty much, 16.50 euros each is even cheaper than a dire hostel dorm room. It's right near the old town centre, a lovely place. As far as the hotel goes, no frills is good way to describe it. But the room does have a tv with BBC world on it, and the bed was fine. Shared bathroom and shower okay, nothing special but fine. (as long as the water is hot and the toilet floor clean, as they all were, I'm not really bothered).

I fully agree with other reviewer, that the other hotel owned by this mob, "Le Jaquemart" did not respond despite repeated emails! So don't bother trying them. And yes the reception did not speak much English, but for around 16.5 euros a nite each, who cares? (also, to the other reviewer mentioned above, the price is 1.50 higher than advertised because of "hotel tax" they add on per night.)
