We traveled with a small group of friends: three couples and a single in September. One of our members suggested Beaune and I'm so glad he did. This turned out to be a highlight of our trip and we had many wonderful experiences in our three-week travels through France. Hotel de la Paix was easy to find. We did have a TomTom GPS with a downloaded France map. There was secure parking. Our room was spacious and overlooked the street. It was not noisy. The room was clean and well-decorated. In fact it looked freshly decorated to us. The bathroom was good sized and clean. We checked in and then explored the town on foot. There were places in the town that we felt like we'd just entered some old movie scene, that hollywood could film a great movie here. We loved the charm of the community and of the hotel. The staff was warm and welcoming and made sure that we liked our rooms. We only stayed one night and therefore had one dinner meal in the center of town which we enjoyed. We had no trouble conversing and most people tried to speak English and we tried to speak French. They were more successful with the English than we were with their language. The pastries are exceptional throughout France. My husband and I were very pleased with this room. The only downside was the price. We stayed at other small hotels/b&b's in France that were less than this hotel per night. At 125 euros, it sounded good, but ended up closer to $175-$200 U.S. when all was said and done (without breakfast but with parking). The breakfast price would have been a bit more. We felt no need to have breakfast on site when there are so many wonderful restaurants, cafes and pastry shops within walking distance to choose from. We like to walk and explore on foot and personally, I do feel that Beaune should be explored this way. It was a wonderful surprise and a great experience. I would go back and stay here again!
