“Historic and romantic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We asked a shopkeeper how to get to the hotel, and luckely there was no other traffic in those one-way streets. The old wine cellar reception, restaurant is remarkable and surely a combination of history and romantic atmosphere with the christmas tree and other small lights. After dropping off the luggage, we went to the reserved hotel parking 200 m down the road.
We had a quality dinner, but found the wine list very expensive. The breakfast was good. The room was just large enough but tastfully decorated and located in the upperpart after climbing a small winding staircase. For view over the roofs see the picture. De 140 cm wide double bed was sagging in the middle so we had an uncomfortable night, but the room could be well heated with the electric radiator.
As this was our halfway stop between Amsterdam and Barcelona we would not recommend this for that purpose as also the breakfast was only 8:30. But for a hotel with lots of character and visiting the town it certainly is right in the centre, with plenty small restaurants around to choose from. I do not recall any church bells.
For parking only during the night on the nearest street is free of cost.

Room Tip: For double beds check is it is not sagging in the middle, but for a single this is not a problem.

“Wonderful, Authentic Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

We arrived at this hotel after dusk, going the wrong way down a one way road in a maze of winding, stone streets. We initially drove past the hotel and even when I walked back, knocked on the wrong door. The owner (presumably) kindly popped out of what I thought was a window or a cellar door, and let us know we could follow him in to reception. Even after the small road bumps we encountered to get there, we were instantly smitten. If you want to stay in a cookie-cutter chain hotel room or if you're mobility impaired this may not be for you. However, if you want the unique experience of staying in a 12th century abbey in the middle of a historic city which asks that you climb beautiful, winding stone staircases to reach your room, overlooking the many church bells and steeples of the historic town of Beaune, this is excellent value. The room was spacious, bright, well adorned (we stayed in La Tache) and had beautiful views. The bed was big, soft and more than comfortable. We ate dinner at the hotel one night and had a beautiful and recommendable poulet a la facon gherard and beef burgundy. The food was fresh, rich and delicious. The wine may have been expensive, but it was fantastic. Breakfast was equally enjoyable. We asked for orange juice and instead of the sneer we became accustomed to as a response in Paris, we were met with "But of course, I am having it pressed for you as we speak"
As happy as we were with the surrounds, we were even happier with the hospitality. I regret only not getting their names so I could mention them specifically but the lady at the front desk, the housekeeper that kindly gave us some privacy when we wanted a midday nap and the man that served us dinner and breakfast were each so accommodating, friendly and very patient with our broken french. The lady at the front desk, who offered to carry both of our bags to our room - which I thought was very kind but unnecessary -- also printed out directions to our next destination because we had little faith in our GPS. It is just another example of going above and beyond. We felt very welcome here and look forward to the next opportunity we have to go back.

Room Tip: La Tache, on the top floor, overlooking Notre Dame. There is a sitting room on the lower level (bath...

“Historic and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

The hotel, a former 12th century abbey, is in the middle of the old town, near Notre-Dame basilica. The owners have tried to keep the building authentic while modernising it to provide a comfortable place to stay.

We used it as a base for exploring the town and the countryside. Parking is available nearby and is not expensive. The hotel itself has stone steps leading to the upper floors and no lift. The rooms are a little small but cosy with a nice en-suite bathroom. We found the bed very comfortable. Heating was a mystery but did not cause too much of a problem. It was also very quiet and you did not hear other people.

Nearby are a nice selection of restaurants and shops.

The staff were very helpful and overall we enjoyed our stay immensely.

Room Tip: Remember that there is no lift so rooms on upper floors may be a problem if you are not fit.

“OK hotel for reasonable cost”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

This hotel is situated in the middle of the city with easy access to everything that Beaune has to offer. The rooms are small and there are a lot of stairs, but it is cosy, and the building is very old so what can you expect. The only thing is that if you don't like churchbells ringing at 7am.... stay somewhere else.

“Lovely Hotel”

Stayed there for several days in the fall of 2010 and loved the room and the location. Parking was a little challenging. Restaurant was very nice and the owner very gracious . It does lack for an elevator but we were helped with our luggage . All in all I would highly recommend this hotel.
