We were greeted by the "off-hand" receptionist, and offered a room on the ground floor. It was the size of a cupboard, grotty, dirty, and had mould on bathroom ceiling. As I have asthma, I was concerned about the mould, and the window would not open to provide fresh air.
We returned to reception to voice our concerns, which did not go down well. We were then told about a double room on 1st floor, but part way through dealing with us, the receptionist then offered this room to another guest (she stopped dealing with us, and served them, whilst we were still at the counter).
Finally we were given a room on 2nd floor, which she proudly presented to us as a family room. She had already made a comment about us not paying full price, as we had booked in advance on an internet site. This room was not any better, but at least the window opened, and as this hotel was busy, I didn't fancy our chances of finding an alternative hotel. Our room was cramped, had stained carpets, full of dust and hair, had dusty dirty fittings, dirty stains on the bathroom door, a mouldy bathroom with filthy, dirty, tiles, a grubby scum encrusted bath and sink. The room heating / aircon unit was broken, with easy access for a child or adult to the wires, the bedroom curtains were hanging off the rail.
The room over looked a lorry park (to the rear of the hotel), so we were kept awake most the night, with sound of lorries coming and going, and sound of trains from the train line nearby.
The stairways and halls were battered and scruffy. I stayed in far better hostels in my younger years, when back packing. I'm glad we had only booked one night.
Beaune seemed a lovely little town, with some great restaurants, and a lively atmosphere even in late September. I would go back to Beaune, but avoid this hotel at all cost!
