I go to Beaune often, and try different hotels. Last trip, July '05, I spent 3 nights at the Hotel de la Cloche. I had one of four rooms facing the medieval garden, so was lucky. A number of rooms faced the parking area.
The room itself was huge, good aircon (which you control), and the toilet is a separate room from the shower/bath - convenient in a way, but you cannot wash your hands.
My main problem was that the room lacked character or charm. I have now stayed at eight hotels in Beaune, from one star to three, and others are much nicer . I wasn't in the main building, so the rooms may have been richer in character. It was very comfortable, but rather sterile. Facing the beautiful garden made up for this - so watch out for the ones facing the parking area.
The staff was very helpful and friendly, and I enjoyed my stay. I would consider staying again, but only if I faced the garden.
