“Wonderful start to a great trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Our first time to France and what a beautiful welcome the city of Beaune and the Athanor Centre Hotel were. The room was clean, quaint but modern and the bed was extremely comfortable. All the staff were extremely friendly, even thought we did not speak much French, they tried very hard to speak english for us. We arrived late on a Sunday night and after unpacking, had a glass of wine (Burgundy of course) in their own wine bar and then we were given a wonderful recommendation for a restaurant close by. The hotel was within walking distance to many shops restautants and beautiful scenery. Beaune is one fo the most beautiful villages we've ever experienced in Europe. We will be back and staying at Anthanor Centre Hotel again!

Room Tip: This is not a noisy town, but rooms on the back side of hotel will be quieter.

“Worst hotel I have possibly ever stayed in.”

We have recently come back from staying at the Hotel Athanor in Beaune.

I don't normally write reviews unless I am going to say something good about something, however, I felt it necessary to write to let people know that this hotel was in no way a good experience.

One of the main problems was the receptionist, who felt it necessary to be rude about our group in French, thinking we could not understand her. When we also called her up to let her know we had cold water in the room she said that it was because the hotel was full. We did not have a warm shower that weekend. Upon leaving the hotel we needed the loo before the 2 hour drive back to the airport, when we asked her if it was possible to use their loo she said no and then explained we would have to go back in to the centre of the town and use the pay loo's. We were aware however that there was a loo that guest could use in the hotel. She was unhelpful and rude and for this reason we would never stay there again.

Although the hotel was cheaper than most in town there are other hotels at the same cost and it wasn't that cheap that we would expect a rude receptionist, cold water, no shower curtain, mildew and rot in the bathrooms and a noisy club going on until 2am most nights.

Stay clear of this hotel and stay in another one.

“A weekend getaway in Beaune, Burgundy”

We just returned from two nights at the Athanor Hotel. The staff was very helpful and welcoming to us and to our big dog. They do not charge extra for dogs.
The hotel is conveniently located inside the city ramparts. The staff pointed out free parking facilities nearby. We enjoyed exploring the town on foot. Big Saturday market with fresh produce, clothing, flee market, and more.
After a dinner with excellent wine, it was most convenient to have a hotel right in the old town.

“Do not stay here”

I was part of a tour group that uses this hotel on a regular basis, and I have since urged this company to drop this hotel. The location is great; the reception area and lounge area are attractive, but it stops there.

I agree with the earlier reviews about a rude receptionist who treated one of us like a criminal for having used a glass from the bar (there was no one around to ask), even though it was returned. As for the Internet/wireless, well, it works maybe for two minutes at a time, and that is after you've spent over 10 minutes trying to log on, despite assurances that "it works" (and so something must be wrong with you...).

For me and my fellow travelers to the person, the rooms were barely adequate though renovated, and the old bathrooms (which haven't been touched) are appalling. There are no shower curtains so that the whole bathroom gets wet, and this is made worse because there is no drainage in the floor, and the run off goes under the bath, resulting in a room that smells heavily of mildew. There was one friend who was fearful that the shoddy electrical in his bathroom would electrocute someone; another person could not open the door once inside his bathroom because some makeshift electrical was dislodged from the ceiling (fortunately, his wife was in the room and could help him get out).

So, in short, do not stay here--no matter how well located it is!

“Rudest receptionist ever”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

One of the receptionists was incredibly charmless, rude and hostile. We telephoned ahead to say we had been stuck in trafffic and would be arriving late but were frostily told that the door would be closed at 11pm prompt. The pool table in the bar was badly worn and the cues of poor quality, yet when my young adult children, 15 and 19, were playing a game the dark-haired po-faced receptionist stormed in twice to reprimand them when she heard a pool ball accidentally land on the floor. When we entered reception to check-out we noticed that this woman gave out a hearty sigh when she saw us coming as if it was too much effort to take our money. Breakfast at 12 euros was poor value is it offered little choice - just one type of bread, hot chopped sausage and ratatouille every day, a hard-boiled egg that smelled off. the croissants were the worst I have seen, squashed and soggy as if they had been microwaved! The room was attractive but very small with not a single drawer and only 4 cheap coat hangers. The hotel was great for two nights for its location, but one could not imagine staying for longer due to the poor breakfasts and lack of storage spaces in the bedrooms, let alone the unpleasant and unprofessional receptionist. The other staff were charming and friendly, and this hotel could do so much better with a little more effort - and the sacking of the most graceless and uncivil receptionist I have ever encountered.
