I got the name from Lonely Planet, and was very pleased (stayed here July, '05).
The hotel is perfectly situated, on a quiet, street, one block above the main square, in easy walking distance of all the great sites in this spectacular medieval city (which are uphill).
It is about a 15 minute walk, slightly uphill, from the train station (hotels across from the station are too far from the main part of the city).
My room (2 beds) and bath were very nice, comfortable for two people, and if you face the back, it is quieter. There was no noise from within the hotel at all.
Rooms on the top floor have aircon (which I originally reserved), but because Autun is cool, we chose a less expensive room on a lower floor. The English-speaking staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I did not try the restaurant, and almost never take hotel breakfasts in France, which are optional.
Autun is a gorgeous medieval city, much less touristy than the more popular Beaune, but just as beautiful. You can take long walks from the city into the Burgundy hills.
I will definitely return, and stay at the La Tete Noire.
