“Adequate but could be much better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

As this is a former convent, we were expecting a fine historic property. The reality is that after four separate owners, Les Ursulines has no clear identity. It is furnished with 40s-style club furniture and, as others have noted, the rooms are motel-like. That said, at 66 Euros, our room on the second floor was large, clean, comfortable and good value. The restaurant was far better quality -- excellent food and service, with prices to match. This could be a first-class hotel, but there probably isn't sufficient demand in Autun to justify the necessary investment.

“Do Not Stay at Les Ursulines”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2011

The hotel was sad and depressing. A smell of mold permeated the entire space.
Our room had ripped furniture, no shower, only plastic cups, stains on the carpet, uncomfortable beds. And this was after we upgraded our room as the one that was booked was horrible. Location was good, but we would not book there again. It was the worst hotel experience we had over our 16 days in France.

“Great location, good restaurant, simple motel type rooms with garage.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

While an ordinary motel-like room, the excellent restaurant and convenient location just up the street from the historical Autun center make this hotel very pleasant and an enjoyable stop for any traveller driving sound Burgundy. The garage below was an added plus. On the expensive side given the bland rooms but the dining was surprisingly outstanding.

“Beautiful views, average rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

The exterior of the hotel fools you into thinking that it will be more luxurious inside than it actually is. There is no doubt that the exterior is beautiful, and the cloister (where you can sit and watch the sun go down) has stunning views. However, inside, think "Best Western" - completely functional, lacking any style or period features etc. It's a characterless, average hotel. The room was dated but again, average. We only had a one-night stay there so we weren't too bothered, but the best thing about the room was definitely the view rather than the facililties! The hotel itself is clean, but tired. The beds were very comfortable, BUT the pillows were very hard and large - like sleeping with your head on a box. I didn't sleep as a result, and I would suggest that if you stay here, bring your own pillow! However my partner likes high pillows and he was fine.
The dinner was really nice - small portions, but four courses means you are full. It was delicious and we didn't encounter any of the problems with service that others have mentioned. The woman on the check in desk was really friendly, and the younger waiters were really nice and helpful (my partner thought the maitre d was a bit miserable, but to me, he was just a typical French waiter!) and the service wasn't slow at all. However, it was a week night and the hotel wasn't really full or busy, so perhaps when they are stretched, the service might be more of a problem. Our stay was fine, but I would emphasise that it looks like a luxury hotel from the outside, but on the inside, it isn't!
