First time visiting Saint Malo, stayed at the Hotel Bristol Union in the city center and found that they had 2stars and 5stars service.

Two stars service are:
- The noise from neighboring rooms, the woody smell of the room and floors, dark room, cobwebs in every corner of the room, the toilet room is too small (not able to close the toilet door for being too small), laundry bags at reception give a bad appearance to the hotel.
Tiny elevator (not fit two people with two suitcases).

Five star service are:
- The location of the hotel is excellent in a quiet part of town, the breakfast is very good (fresh croissant, yogurt, bread, fresh cheese and ham, cereals), the girl from the breakfast is very attentive.

We recommend visiting Saint Malo, very clean, quiet and with a delightful smell of chocolate and biscuits, however, stay in this hotel is not the best option. Do not be fooled by the photos outside the hotel.

We had a first floor bedroom with ensuite overlooking Place de la Poissonnerie - though we never saw any fish there. Could be a bit noisy at night. The free wi-fi worked fine and the landlord lent me a plug converter because I had forgotten mine. We liked the ample continental breakfast served till 11.30 am. Fresh croissants and petit pain, good coffee, yoghurt, ham and cheese. You are within the walls and a short walk from anywhere. The big tourist restaurants nearby have snooty waiters and are costly. Le Bistro de Jean is charming and serves authentic local food. Le Chalut next door is a gastronomic fish restaurant with fine food and prices to match. But lots of little extras are included. More simply try the crepes and galettes in the only food place on the ramparts at Le Corps de Garde. Great views out to sea. We paid the 12 euros daily for hassle free underground parking just nearby.

This is not a good hotel for business travelers...period.
We were here for my husband's conference at the Palais du Grand Large. There were plenty of conference participants staying here, and you'd see them all in the lobby trying (often unsuccessfully) trying to get wireless internet access. The hotel advertises wireless internet access, but good luck actually getting online...and it didn't work at all from the rooms.

Our room on the fifth floor, ugh...so small there were approximately 4 inches between the bed and the built in table against the wall...so you had to squish yourself really, really small just to be able to get around the bed...the room definitely needed some upkeep, paint, etc..not exactly dirty, but so well worn that you got the impression that it wasn't so clean.

Noisy...we didn't sleep well the whole time we were there, probably due to the squawking seagulls, which obviously the hotel can't control, but add a poor night's sleep to a barely passable room in below average condition, no internet access (as advertised) AND HORRORS....bad coffee in the morning....and we don't have much good to say about the place...

Besides, all the people who say you need to stay within the walls of the city? whatever...the hotels outside the walls are no doubt quieter, and they are very, very close! You can easily go eat dinner inside the walls and then walk back to your better value hotel outside...If I ever find myself in Saint Malo again, I'd definitely look for a better deal outside the walls....I fell for the hype: "you have to stay inside the walls"...not if you can walk 1/4 of a mile or so you don't have to. And then maybe you'd get a good night's sleep.

Stayed here this Summer for 2 nights with our 3 children. Took the top floor 'Family Suite' which consisted of two separate bedrooms with own corridor and 'outer' door leading to other rooms on this floor. Very simple and basic furnishings. Bathroom ensuite to the double room which smelled a little of men's public conveniences! The children shared the other room which had a double and a single and a shower room en suite. Their toilet was on the shared landing between the two bedrooms. It cost 155 Euros per night which I suppose for inside the walls was ok. If you've ever stayed in an Ibis- this hotel was not as clean or comfortable.
