This hotel was booked for us by the AA as we'd broken down in France. I was expecting basic and that's exactly what it is. We had a family room with a double bed and a single bed for a 6 year old. The room was old and tired, the toilet didn't flush properly unless you put your hand in the cistern, but what topped it off is half a day later I haven't stopped scratching. It seems I have bed bugs! Do not stay unless you are desperate.

A perfectly-located hotel within the walls of the intra-muros and only a couple of minutes walk from most of the sights to be found there. Our room was a good size, but smelled very slightly and could have used a bit of smartening up - the bathroom was of similar character. Cleanliness was average, neither perfect nor noticeably poor. We were quite high up at the front with a nice view. We also had a very good rate which helped us feel we were getting value - if we had paid the average rate quoted on this site, or anything even close to it, we would have felt ripped off.

Unfortunately, the young man at reception seemed extremely reluctant to communicate with us (even when checking in and out) and was disinterested almost to the point of rudeness - a major black mark against what was otherwise a pretty enjoyable stay.

it is not easy to find a budget accomodation in saint malo in august, and this was one of the few i was able to find. nothing special, a little bit shabby, but in a wonderful location in saint malo intra muros.

The room was spacious and the toilet and bathroom were separate (but still still private). The only quirk was that the room had a slight "fishy" smell to it, which wasn't too off-putting. On the bright side, I was only a step away from all the action in the old village and breakfast was delicious.
