“Excellent location and Superior rooms are well worth the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2010

Delighted to have booked the superior room for the extra space as the weather was so showry. Great surprise to have a PC with free WIFI in the room also made the Hubby very happy to have TV with so many English channels and to be able to watch a Premiership match. Bit of a draw-back with no Bar but some alcohol was available as room service. We found a great bar called 'The Tara Inn' near the Port where the atmosphere was everything you could ask for. We don't usually frequent Irish Bars when abroad but the owners of O'Reilly's Tara Inn have it just right. Great break despite the weather.

“Well, the mosquitos enjoyed our stay!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2009

We stayed in this hotel for one night recently. I had requested a room with bath by email. When responding this was not confirmed. It is one of those hotels when answering by email they don't give a name only sign off using the word "reception".
The hotel is located about 50 yds from the main train and bus station and facing on to a very busy road and park.
When we arrived to check in we were immediately asked would we be staying for breakfast. As we had just eaten lunch we weren't thinking about food but agreed to having breakfast at €8 per head. We were given a room on the 4th floor overlooking the busy road. As I made my way up the stairs I noticed there was an overpowering odour of potpourri. There were bowls of this horrible smelling stuff everywhere. I was of the impression that it was hiding an underlying smell similar to that of drains.
The room was bright and airy with a good sized bed and flatscreen T.V. on the wall. The bathroom did not have the bath that I requested but a shower. The bathroom was tiny with a low roof. To sit on the toilet or access the shower required a little bit of gymnastics or circus training. It was dreadful. The only soap provided came from a squeezy bottle on the wall similar to the type you get in public places.
The bed was very comfortable. There was a lonely kettle in the room but no cups or anything else.
As there is no air conditioning in this hotel you have to leave the window open. The noise from the street traffic is very loud. The park across the road is used by skateboarders. At 1.a.m. they were still skateboarding and you could hear every noise that their skateboards made. The local youths then became tired of this and started smashing bottles. In fairness to the hotel there is double glazed windows as well as an outer window and metal shutter. We had a choice to close all the windows and bake and enjoy the underlying odour from the bathroom drains or open the windows and listen to the noise. We chose to open the windows.
Unfortunately during the night we were eaten alive by mosquitos. My wife is badly bitten. We figured that these were coming from the pot plants that were hanging on the Juliet balcony outside our room. The next morning we noticed a can of bug spray on top of the wardrobe for guests use.
After checking in we decided to go for a stroll. As we were leaving the hotel we were called aside and asked to pay for our nights stay in advance. This coincided with us deciding to tell the receptionist that we would not be having breakfast after all in the hotel. We had overdosed on hotel breakfasts over the previous few days and decided to have a break. This was not taken well. From that time on we were not looked at let alone smiled at. In fact when we checked out and were handing back the key we didn't have one word spoken to us.
