We stayed for two nights at Hotel Central following a visit to Lourdes..This is the second time we have flown from Stansted to Pau to get to Lourdes. We got a taxi to the Railway Station (cost 22 euros) and the train to Lourdes was 12 euros return( a pleasant 30 min journey).
We were impressed by Pau on our last visit and during the two days there were able to see more of the town. It is a mixture of a former grand spa town with the Chateau, historical sites, parks and gardens combined with modern buildings. The boulevard de Pyrenees, which overlooks the mountains, is a wonderful spot to sit and relax.
Hotel Central is just that; very central to everything. There are numerous eating places especially near to the Place Clemenceau and the Chateau. We favoured one on the corner of Place Clemenceau and rue Mal Foch were you can sit outside (rates quite reasonable, especially at mid afternoon - 8 euros for Plat de Jour)
We booked the Hotel based on reviews on Trip Adviser and were not disappointed. The themed rooms are very clean and pretty with nice 'touches' in the room and throughout the hotel. We were immediately impressed and felt very comfortable throughout our stay. We would certainly book again
