Drove to Pau from Perpignan mainly on the D117, a highly recommended route with wonderful scenery, beautiful small towns and Cathar castles. we will return but not to the Palmeraie! We chose this as an overnight stop on route to Northern Spain and it was a good location and easy to find just off the E80.
A reasonable greeting, the room was gloomy, hot and the aircon did not work. We asked for something to be done about the aircon and got a shrug of the shoulders. Asked for a different room and was told there were no alternative rooms available. This was strange as there appeared to be only two or three other people staying at the hotel. So we had to stay where we were. The room was not particularly clean, I found the cut up pieces of someones credit card on the floor.
Had a beer, the most expensive I had had in France by a country mile, euro 7.50, my wife suggested I should have asked the price before ordering, I did not reply. Dinner was Ok and breakfast was poor. Had a poor nights sleep, no aircon and as the room was on the ground floor could not open the window because of noise from passing traffic.
Parking was free but not secure.
I am sure there are much better places to stay in Pau.
