This place could be nice, but it isn't. It's biggest weakness are the rooms and this hotel should by no means have a 3* ranking. A 2* ranking would be much more appropriate. The breakfast is quite good, the restaurant actually too, but why eat there with all the excellent and cheaper places within walking distance? The room was old, worn out and traces mold in the corners in the bathroom didn't help as well. If they would refurbish the rooms completely this hotel could be good. Pau has much better places for the same price, also in the center of town.

We stayed here two nights a week apart as part of a circular tour that we were doing. The first time we stayed the room allocated to us was adequate if very dated. The second time we stayed the room allocated to us was terrible. On the second floor at the front of the hotel overlooking the main street. Very noisy all night. No air con. Room so dark we had to have lights on all time and they were the low wattage variety and made hardly any difference. Peeling paint on balcony doors, what looked like dry rot in one corner of ceiling. Thin, stained carpet, mismatched stained furniture, Saggy bed, with one thin blanket. No soundproofing. Bathroom was grim with shiny pink tiles and was located in what might have been a walk-in wardrobe at one time. The separate toilet was so small that you had to plan moves carefully in there. We asked for a change of room but the hotel was full (with very noisy Argentinian sports teams) . The corridors were dark and gloomy and the carpets on the stairs were threadbare in places (very dangerous). We have stayed in two other Best Western Hotels (Carcassonne and Dinan) and both were excellent - modern, clean, welcoming and with tea/coffee trays and lovely furnishings. But not at this hotel.

Looking at previous reviews we were not sure what to expect but I think we got one of the refurbished rooms. Room was really large and was newly decorated. Bathroom and separate toilet also new. We paid €50 euros for the room for the night. Hotel has free parking - which was an adventure as it is in the pedestrian only part of town! Hotel restaurant is closed at the weekends and on a Sunday evening only one brasserie is open in the centre of Pau.

We stayed here for one night while travelling in France and were very disappointed. We had a standard room at the back of the hotel, which was very basic. It was very hot and we requested a fan as offered in the room guide but were told one wasn't available.
The hotel had a very good location and it had free parking, which is a bonus in French cities.
OK for a brief stop in Pau but not for a longer stay, unless you have a better room!
