good location though difficult to access now that the town has become pedestrian access only.
our room had been renovated and was really pleasant to be in. it had a couryard outlook which might not be as nice as if it had been a street view but we stayed there 4 nights and we appreciated the quietness at night, except on the one saturday night when, from one of the flat that oppend also on the same courtyard, a birthday party was in full swing till 2am! and the noise was horrendous! and noone did anything about it! so i guess it was not as such the fault of the hotel management.... otherwise a nice spot to stay when in town. next time we stay there we might ask for a room on the street....

Pau is a new destination from Southampton so we thought we would give it a try.It is a place where the wealthy English holidayed during the summer in the 19th century so we thought it would be a good place with lots to do and see. We selected this hotel because the bus from the airport which runs hourly every week day (except Sundays) and costs the princely sum of 1 euro stops at Poele Bosquet which is yards from the hotel.Get off the bus turn right and you are there. it is also centrally situated and for people with walking disabilities there is a free little bus which stops outside the hotel very frequently and goes round the town. we had a large room - clean and well decorated with decent size bathroom. Breakfast had good quality fruit juice and really good quality sausages although the coffee was indifferent as it always seems to be in any hotel.We loved the decor but if clean impersonal modern is your taste then this is not the hotel for you. If we go back to Pau this would be the hotel we would choose. we really enjoyed our 4 nights there.

I'm an American who has been living in France since 1997 and I finally had the pleasure to organize my summer vacation in the South West corner of France. After two weeks along the extreme southern coast and to avoid the nasty weekend French traffic back to Paris, I booked a weekend in this Best Western downtown Pau. Magnificent older style architecture on the outside with completely renovated, beautifully finished and spacious rooms: one for the kids and the other us parents. Not only is the central location great to visit the town by foot (a great habit of French culture), but as an avid cyclists, I took the opportunity to ride out and back to the top of the Col d'Aubisque - "Fun"!
I know some of the rooms weren't finished yet, but after speaking with the owner, I won't hesitate to come back for another visit to this Best Western. He gave me a tour of some of the work he was doing and things appeared to coming along very nicely.
Next time for me will be another mountain to climb, but for the entire family we had a good time - ate well and with plenty of interesting activities and visits to do.

This place could be nice, but it isn't. It's biggest weakness are the rooms and this hotel should by no means have a 3* ranking. A 2* ranking would be much more appropriate. The breakfast is quite good, the restaurant actually too, but why eat there with all the excellent and cheaper places within walking distance? The room was old, worn out and traces mold in the corners in the bathroom didn't help as well. If they would refurbish the rooms completely this hotel could be good. Pau has much better places for the same price, also in the center of town.
