I booked this hotel for a 2 night stopover on our way up through France so that we could explore this beautiful part of the country and stay in a little bit of luxury. How mistaken I was! The hotel looked lovely from the outside as it does in all the publicity shots, and was ideally situated in the middle on Montignac, however, when we were shown to our room my jaw dropped. Firstly, we had been designated a disabled person's room which, is all well and good except for the fact that neither my wife nor I are disabled, neither did we request such facilities! Even if we had, I would have been none-the-less disappointed as the room was very basic; a kin to a roadside motel, and not the 'superior room' I had booked. There were holes in the floor and walls where radiators once were, and shoddy patch-up jobs over other parts of the wall and the wall paper in places had started to peal off. The shower room, unlike the luxurious room in the brochure, was literally a hole in the floor and a shower too low to get under. Therefore I had to literally bend over backwards to get my head under the shower! I thought that there had been some misunderstanding and went to reception to air my disappointment, saying that there had obviously been some mix up as I had booked a superior room, only to be told that this was what was classed as a 'superior room' and there were no other vacant rooms in the hotel. If that was superior, I'd hate to see basic (see the pictures for yourself). To add insult to injury the room was so close to the kitchens, that if sleep was desired after 7 am, ear-plugs were a necessity.
As for the rest of the hotel well, the restaurant didn’t look too shabby, but there was no way that I was putting more money in their coffers so we ate out for breakfast and dinner. The pool looked lovely, however on closer inspection; several rusty hairgrips on the bottom didn’t inspire confidence in the levels of cleanliness!
My final attempt at rectifying the situation came when paying the bill, as I thought that surely there should be some recompense made towards us. However, I was tersely informed that the management were abroad and that she couldn't do anything about it. If I had paid £40 for the room per night as is expected at a roadside motel that would have been fair enough, however, the bill topped £200 for 2 nights, room only!!! OUTRAGEOUS!!!
