“Unforgettable, one-of-a-kind place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

We stayed here a few nights as part of a two-week tour of Southern France. The amazing, lush property is a renovated traditional country farm compound located very near (~1-mile) the town of Les Eyzies and just next to an ancient church. It includes expansive, picturesque grounds with many tables and out-buildings (and a nice pool, which we did not get a chance to try) for lounging and relaxation. The main buldings are spacious, including a large common area for breakfasts and relaxation. All the areas are nicely decorated in artful/country style.

Our room was located on the second floor overlooking the river valley. It was good size, full of charming appointments, and had lovely original wood beams and antique furniture. The mornings waking up to the sound of church bells and animal sounds from the misty valley were unforgettable.

The place has a magical rustic charm (yet in a very liveable way) that is hard to beat. It seems remote and private, yet it is close to the many activities of the area. The owners (who live in the main farm house) are very nice and accommodating people.

It was a bit of a surprise to find that the property is just across the road from a train line. However, this was really not a problem and should not concern anyone thinking of staying here. The light rail trains are quiet and infrequent.

“A Delight”

A perfect place to launch a tour of the Dordogne region. A unique B & B, delightfully decorated by Suzanne who with her husband Mike has made their home your home for however long you want to stay. Ferme de Tayac is close to all the major attractions and yet is set in a beautiful country environment.

“Perfect venue for touring the Dordogne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

Stayed here 5 nights while touring France with my wife. I must say it is the most quiet place I/ve ever stayed. I never heard a sound for 5 nights, and there were other guests. The most restful sleep ever...I must build a house with 2 foot thick walls. The Ferme de Tayac is perfectly positioned for touring the Dordogne, with most of the major attractions no more than 30 minutes away. We attended a village market day, went canoeing, enjoyed a long hike through forests and fields, and toured some beautiful villages and ancient sites. We also loved our English speaking hosts Mike and Suzanne...they looked after us very well. For the Dordogne region, this is the place to stay!!!!

“Charming, beautiful B &B”

Beautifully restored B & B with super swimming area, lovely garden and charming rooms. Breakfasts weren't very imaginative, somewhat lacking in choice. But nevertheless, a great stay.

“Lovely ambience but lacklustre service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

Although it's not in a picturesque position (beside a railway line) this B & B has a lovely atmosphere, beautiful gardens and rooms. The house is full of antiques and vintage clothing which add to the whole experience. The pool was lovely and clean and there were many places to sit under trees or lie in the sun.

Unfortunately the service did not live up to the building. There was no kettle or cups in the room ( a small kettle was available in the garden which took ages to boil) nor a fridge. A shelf in a fridge was available in an out building. This made it really difficult to self cater at lunchtime and evenings which the owners encouraged us to do. All we had with us was a Swiss penknife to help us out and as there was a notice informing us that Ferme de Tayac was not a hotel we felt a request for crockery or cutlery would not be welcome.

Another major disappointment was breakfast. This simply consisted of a choice of cereals, one glass of orange juice and a cold supermarket bought croissant each with some slices of rustic bread along with a hard boiled egg which cooled over the hour. With three patisseries in the village the whole experience would have been greatly improved by a daily delivery of freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolat.

On one day the landlady was away for the day and it seemed to be beyond her partner's capabilities to even boil the egg or attempt to clean the room.

Having said that we did feel it was a special place to stay. Although we doubt we will return for a second stay, however if they upped the service we would reconsider that decision.

If you are thinking of going and are travelling by car rather than air, make sure you take a kettle and picnic set and you'll have a lovely time.

Dear Madam / Sir
We thank you for your candid comments and take note of them.
We hope you will appreciate our response
1-Coffee and tea making facilities are not offered on our website, so why expect them ?
2-The 250 litre fridge/freezer is WHOLLY available to all the guests, we do not monitor the amount of space individuals take, but is one shelf per couple not enough ?
3-We state that guests are welcome to consume any additional food in the gardens. Surely this does not imply that we shall supply the necessary crockery/cutlery/etc for up to 12 people up to twice a day ! Our honest opinion is, that i fanybody wishes to self cater noon and evening, a B&B is the wrong type of accommodation to choose.
4- Cold supermarket croissant? “Grain de Blé” is the only bakery in the village that bakes on the premises. We are sure that they will be glad to confirm to you that your bread and croissant beurre are collected straight from their ovens each morning, 07.30, on a daily basis!
5- On July 28 my wife asked all guests at breakfast, if due to her absence it would be acceptable that she would forfeit the cleaning of the rooms on the 29th of July. All guest, including yourselves, knowing the reason, consented. So why make it an issue ?
6-To conclude, we still run our B&B largely because we get a lot of pleasure out of it, and it is for that reason that we beg you not to reconsider!! And in order to show that we learn from disastrous events like this, I am considering to go on an egg boiling course.
Yours,
Mike Lamars
