We stayed here for 4 days. Our stay was a little unfortunate as there was some building going on at a new tourist information centre behind the hotel. So what would have been quiet was spoilt a bit by building noise behind and car park construction in the front. All is due to be finished by late July 2010.
Our room was good though the loo was a little small and you had to open to door to pull up your trousers. I don't think all the rooms suffered this problem. A ceiling fan instead of air con ( we like that). No fridge for our evening wine.
Nevertheless the owner manageress is charming and made sure we had all the information we needed to tour the amazing sites in the area. We tended to tour during the heat of the day and then retire to the pool for the afternoon. An excellent pool, large with a significant deep section so you can really swim or dive. Warm clean and with excellent pool furniture.
Good standard breakfast, without 'portion control'. Very nice staff. Good public areas and gardens take you down to the stream.
The town will no doubt be 'tourist' busy in high season. There are not really any shops to buy food for a picnic. We ate in one very nice restaurant (on the left as you walk into town on the corner opposite the sculpture) and ate well, an excellent pan fried duck breast with truffle and fois grois risotto. Family food cooked with care and pride. The bar by the museum was good but the the bar restaurant on the other side of the road under the Neanderthal man was not so good, formula food overcooked. Maybe it was a bad day as it was the world cup!
On the whole a very nice hotel, an excellent location to tour the incredible Vézère valley. Do some research before you arrive to make the most of the sites.
