We were desperate for last minute accomodation in Biarritz in August and booked this before reading the slamming reviews on TripAdvisor!
The hotel is well situated in the centre of town and near to bus stops to the airport. Our first room was actually modern, fresh and clean and the staff were really friendly. However, the breakfast's overpriced at 10 euros for bread, yoghurt, juice and a hot drink. Especially when you can get breakfast for 6 euros in town.
We were so happily surprised that we booked the hotel on our way home, a week later. This time we were given a bigger, and therefore more expensive room on the ground floor. There was a sign explaining that the hotel was undergoing refurbishment, which explained the massive difference in quality (but not price). The bathroom smelt damp, probably due to the cork (?!) walls, and contained a variety of insect life. The beds were covered with a quilt and cushions which had not seen a washing machine in a very long time, although the proper bedding (pillows are found in the wardrobe) was clean. Finally, being right next to reception, our sleep was governed by how much noise the owners made in reception.
I'm sure Maison du Lierre will get there in the end with its refurbishments, but in the meantime, ask to see your room before agreeing to take it and don't bother with breakfast.

Just back from a five day stay in the Maison du Lierre & having read the reviews we were really concerned about the hotel. However we were pleasantly suprised - our room (number 17) was spacious, similar in style to the photographs on the hotel website, & we had a very large terrace with table & chairs. We has specified that we wanted a renovated room - so perhaps this could explain the difference ? Certainly I'd class this as a lovely three star hotel.

We'd certainly recommend this hotel & while the room wasn't cheap at €130 per night - a last minute hotel booking in high season Biarritz is never going to be cheap.

The location of this hotel is excellent. However, everything else about our stay was awful. As other guests have written, the website is very deceptive. The rooms we stayed in were small and terribly furnished, there were no views, the beds were small and very uncomfortable and the bath in our second bathroom was more like a shower cubicle. The worst part of the stay was however the rudeness of the hotel staff. We were told prior to our stay that we would have to move half way through. We agreed to this. Initially we were meant to move on Tuesday, then they changed this to Wednesday, after we had packed and arrived back in the reception hall we were told we weren't moving until Friday. After we complained that this was unacceptable, they agreed that we could stay in our original room, only to change their minds again the next day. The room that they made us move to on the Friday was right next to the front door (there are two rooms off the reception hall). The walls are paper thin so we could hear people walking through the reception and speaking to the staff all day. This hotel was far from value for money and very nearly ruined what was otherwise a lovely holiday.

Had booked this hotel based on their website - which did not feature any pictures of the rooms - and for a reason, it turned out.

The reception area and hallways were fair enough, but the room itself
was awful. An extension cord that looked like it had survived a nuclear war powered all the lights in the room, the carpet was dirty and the wall paper was falling off the wall in places. The worst though was the pillows which smelled like sweat and greasy hair - didn't seem like the sheets had been washed from the last (10) guests.

We stayed for 20 minutes, then went out and got a room in a different
hotel. We lost our deposit but there's no way we could have stayed in this hotel.
