“A good hotel albeit little tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

This hotel is about 15-20 mins from the airport, perfect! On arrival and first view we were a little critical but reserved full judgement until we got in. As there were 4 of us we wanted 2 rooms, preferably near to each other. Although this was not organised, Sylvain soon arranged this for us and were happy with 115 and 117 on the first floor. The view from the room was nothing to look at but it was perfectly adequate. A/C was very good in the rooms, especially as it was a hot weekend.

The down points: toilet situated in a small room so you had to keep the door open which may not have been pleasant for your room mate!
Rather expensive breakfast (20 euros), you're better off just having a petit dejeuner in the bar which should keep you until lunch time.
Hotel a little misleading on their web site in saying there is a spa. This is actually at the Sofitel thalassa, a few minutes down the road AND you have to pay for it (but at a discounted price).

A very comfortable bed but the room was looking a little tired so could do with a refurb. A lovely walk into the centre via the beach takes about 10-15 mins. Sylvain was a wealth of info for us and recommended a number of restaurants in the area. You must go to Bar Jean! It may not look like much but the food is fantastic with lively atmosphere. Try their cote be boeuf with dauphinoise potatoes. C'est magnifique!!

Make sure you check out all the hotel web sites for prices. In the end we rang the hotel direct and received the best deal.

All in all a nice hotel that could do with a refresh, friendly reception staff particularly Sylvain.

“Lovely position”

This is our second stay at the hotel as we wanted to return to Biarritz and from our first visit could see no reason to look for a different hotel. The position is very good with a reasonable walk downhill into the town (a little steeper coming back!) The hotel itself looks grand and the central atrium with rooms off is a stunning feature. As previous reviews have indicated the bedrooms are a little tired and could do with some refurbisment especially with the bathrooms. However this would no doubt increase the room rate and at the moment this is reasonable for the facilities in Biarritz. We ate in the restaurant on one evening which was a little disapointing, and the most expensive meal of our holiday. The staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and I would happily return again, though I would probably pay the extra for a sea view.

“Good value...by Biarritz standards anyway!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2011

OK this is a 4* hotel in a major tourist trap so it's never going to score highly in the value for money stakes but it is in easy walking distance of the town centre and the beach (via 110 steps!) and has lots of free parking so the car had a holiday for the entire stay too. I've stayed in many Mercure hotels so I knew what to expect but this one is far less "office block" like than many others. We had a superior room which had a sea view and mini balcony and was very well equipped with a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities (still rare in France). The bed was very comfortable and as we stayed for more than 2 nights we had a complementary Thallasatherapy session at the nearby Sofitel hotel (20 mins in a hydrobath or waterbed massage and use of the pool & spar with return transport). Breakfasts were average for this class of hotel but one minus point was not much got restocked in the last hour. The restaurant was laughably expensive but then the full range of Biarritz's eateries are within 10-20min walk. The pool is outside and small and not too warm but then the sea is only about 5mins walk...and warmer!
I'm not sure you could find a better hotel of that standard, in that location and for that price so if you want to stay in Biarritz then I'd recommend it. If you want cheap then I'd recommend staying somewhere other than Biarritz!

Room Tip: Book ahead for choice and look for special offers on the Accor website
