OK this is a 4* hotel in a major tourist trap so it's never going to score highly in the value for money stakes but it is in easy walking distance of the town centre and the beach (via 110 steps!) and has lots of free parking so the car had a holiday for the entire stay too. I've stayed in many Mercure hotels so I knew what to expect but this one is far less "office block" like than many others. We had a superior room which had a sea view and mini balcony and was very well equipped with a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities (still rare in France). The bed was very comfortable and as we stayed for more than 2 nights we had a complementary Thallasatherapy session at the nearby Sofitel hotel (20 mins in a hydrobath or waterbed massage and use of the pool & spar with return transport). Breakfasts were average for this class of hotel but one minus point was not much got restocked in the last hour. The restaurant was laughably expensive but then the full range of Biarritz's eateries are within 10-20min walk. The pool is outside and small and not too warm but then the sea is only about 5mins walk...and warmer!
I'm not sure you could find a better hotel of that standard, in that location and for that price so if you want to stay in Biarritz then I'd recommend it. If you want cheap then I'd recommend staying somewhere other than Biarritz!
