“GREAT HOLIDAY!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

We are a family of 5 and have just spent 12 nights camping with friends ( family of 4) using our own tents. The pitch was a good size and had plenty of room even with a large tent a gazebo and the car although being very sandy made it hard pegging it down and walking about bare foot was a no go as lots of small thistles growing. The campsite was exellent and the facillities were really good and kept very clean, the pools were fantastic and the kids loved it (so did the adults!). the bar and disco area was good and not to noisey from our pitch although i expect that the pitches closer may not say the same. We hired a cooler and found that it did the job although small and caught us out as we expected it to be on the pitch not a hike across the site so would recommend taking your own.
If planning on eating out, i would recommend getting into the car and driving a short distance to Capbriton or Hossegor, where there are more restaurant choices.
The beach down the road was no good for swimming or for young kids as the waves are big, a short drive though to Capbriton and the beach was fantastic, Hossegor is also a good beach and the shops are not bad, Picking the right spot to park and getting to the beaches early is the ticket as all the free parking spots fill up fast.
Bayonne is a lovely place to visit and do some shopping, Biarritz was ok but very busy ( Dont bother with the train tour, waste of money!).
Overall we had a fantastic time and didnt want to come home, Would we stay there again yes if we go back to that area.

“fantastic”

We have just spent 2 weeks here with children aged 12 and 8 staying with Thomsom Al Fresco. Campsite was large and lively but somehow felt very intimate. Fantastic reps from Thomson. The kids were never bored during entire stay. Although beach is a little distance away we were able to cycle there within a few minutes. Very good cycle track to another great beach at Cap Breton. There is loads to do in the surrounding area to keep kids of any age entertained. Fantastic place and would recommend for anybody with energetic kids. i cannot relate the poor reviews of this site to the experience we had, everything was clean and functioning throughout the visit,

Room Tip: airconditioning is a godsend on hot nights

“Enjoyed our stay but with reservations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

We are a family of 5 - 3 children under 10 and stayed here for the first 2 weeks of July. We liked the pool complex and the on site pizzeria / restaurant was also good value and good service. If you like to swim in the sea I would not recommend the beach at Labenne as waves and current are very strong. We enjoyed the entertainment at night and the children enjoyed the disco. We stayed with Eurocamp and were a little disappointed both by the welcome and the accommodation [ no courier to meet us despite arriving at the advised time] and we felt that the soft furnishings and mattresses in our mobile were no longer fresh. The children enjoyed the kids' camps and we liked nearby Bayonne and Biarritz.

“Great Holiday with Thompson Alfresco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

Just got back from 11 nights at Le Sylvamar, staying with Thompson Alfresco staying in a Vivaldi, which was modern, ,spacious, spotlessly clean and had everything we could need in it, reps were also very helpful when we needed them.

Pool area is fantastic, clean, and fun especially the lazy river bit, but it does get invaded by Spanish holiday makers at the weekend, good luck if you want a sunlounger on the weekend and you're not there when the pool opens at 10.30am, just go to one of the nearby beaches instead! During the week though the pool is much quieter and getting a sun lounger wasnt a problem. Onsite restaurant was pretty good as well, and not really priced any different from anywhere else.

Labenne Labenne/Ocean is pretty quiet, only one road with a few restaurants/bars of it, we only ate out at 2 of them, and we wouldn't be rushing back anytime soon. Much better is the short 10 min drive to Hossegor where there are much better places to eat out, inlcuding Little Princess just near Hossegor Beach, which was extremely good and not expensive at all, and also much better shops, cafes and market.

Bayonne and Biarritz are also well worth trips out to go and visit, Bayonne's only about 15 mins away and Biarritz about 25. Bayonne in particular had really nice shops and places to eat.

Labenne beach is definatley not suitable for toddlers/small children, but there are plenty of nearby lakes with beaches which would be fine.

We got the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao with Brittany Ferries and then drove to Labenne, which took less than 2 hours, and was pretty much one straight road, saving loads of money and stress! compared with toll roads from Calais/Canne/St Malo

For the price that we paid for the holiday, we were really impressed and would definately use Thompson Alfresco again, but maybe try a site in a different area of France/Spain.
