loved the look of this funky hotel on the website but it was a bit over my budget. ummed and ahhed and ended up booking as a treat. maybe my fault for skim reading the detail but I was expecting a lot more. one thing I did not skim read was the description "junior suite" and the room we were given could not be described in any way as a suite, it was an average sized room, albeit with the bathroom as an integral part of the room but that does not make a room a suite!! I was expecting a less a separate sitting area.
the design may have been cutting edge in the early 2000s but now just looks mainstream. the other thing about really hip design is it needs to be done with the highest quality materials to the highest possible standard, this was not. white leather surfaces were grubby, white gloss paint had yellowed with edge, the tiling in the bathroom was poorly finished, the flat screen TV looked small and sad but no doubt was the height of cool when installed.
sometimes it's the small things that jar the most and in this room it was the usual hotel room detritus that detracted. bits of laminated paper cluttering up surfaces that should have been clean, telling you stuff you didn't need to know about the toiletries and re-using towels etc. if you must put this sort of stuff in at least make sure it's in keeping with your overall design. the bit of paper to hang on your door to order breakfast had farcical incomprehensible english (cockel or blurred eggs anyone?). surely in a really modern hotel ordering breakfast should be via your TV screen. and I really don't want to be told if I steal the fake rose it will cost me 10 euro.
and then annoying things - the basin didn't have a plug (on purpose) which didn't please my husband as he came to shave and a miserable mini bar with just one of each bottle (shall we fight over that beer darling?).
but, on the plus side, a fantastic bath, good drench shower, very comfortable bed. also very professional and friendly staff, good parking, very near to tram stop so v easy to get into centre of Bordeaux.
I think if I had paid euro 120 a night and not euro 180 I would have been less critical, at that price I expected special which this was not.
