“disappointing and poor value for money”

loved the look of this funky hotel on the website but it was a bit over my budget. ummed and ahhed and ended up booking as a treat. maybe my fault for skim reading the detail but I was expecting a lot more. one thing I did not skim read was the description "junior suite" and the room we were given could not be described in any way as a suite, it was an average sized room, albeit with the bathroom as an integral part of the room but that does not make a room a suite!! I was expecting a less a separate sitting area.

the design may have been cutting edge in the early 2000s but now just looks mainstream. the other thing about really hip design is it needs to be done with the highest quality materials to the highest possible standard, this was not. white leather surfaces were grubby, white gloss paint had yellowed with edge, the tiling in the bathroom was poorly finished, the flat screen TV looked small and sad but no doubt was the height of cool when installed.

sometimes it's the small things that jar the most and in this room it was the usual hotel room detritus that detracted. bits of laminated paper cluttering up surfaces that should have been clean, telling you stuff you didn't need to know about the toiletries and re-using towels etc. if you must put this sort of stuff in at least make sure it's in keeping with your overall design. the bit of paper to hang on your door to order breakfast had farcical incomprehensible english (cockel or blurred eggs anyone?). surely in a really modern hotel ordering breakfast should be via your TV screen. and I really don't want to be told if I steal the fake rose it will cost me 10 euro.

and then annoying things - the basin didn't have a plug (on purpose) which didn't please my husband as he came to shave and a miserable mini bar with just one of each bottle (shall we fight over that beer darling?).

but, on the plus side, a fantastic bath, good drench shower, very comfortable bed. also very professional and friendly staff, good parking, very near to tram stop so v easy to get into centre of Bordeaux.

I think if I had paid euro 120 a night and not euro 180 I would have been less critical, at that price I expected special which this was not.

“Fun extras, good service, different side of Bdx”

This is a fun place to stay. Great steam room, massage chair it was difficult to leave, bathtub the size of a four person jacuzzi, fun lighting, good mojitos sent up speedily from the well stocked hotel bar. You have to take the tram in to get into the centre, but this is very easy and quick, and it's an easy walk to Chartrons waterfront market which is a great weekend spot. Staff were continuously helpful and courteous. Across the street from a waterfront outlet mall (which is not thrilling, but is actually open on sunday).

“Quite Impressive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2010

This place is very modern in decor. It's in a great location, we easily took the tram from the train station. The area seems like a slower paced side of town with growing retail developments across the street along side of the river which is great for a walk or morning jog. The problem with the room is that I didn't want to leave it was so comfortable to lounge around in wearing the provided robes and slippers. The room has a flat screen wall mounted television and a separate private toilet room from the main bedroom. The shower was equipped with both a rain fall shower head and a hand held spray hose all inside of a large bathtub big enough for two. The bed was pleasant, quality sheets with a down comforter, and LED reading lights. The hotel walking distance to many little bars and a variety of restaurants. It is also walking distance to the main town center which is covered in great shops and restaurants. We stopped into a wine tasting bar called Aux Quatre Coins Du Vin, nice owners and a refined selection of wines available for tasting as well as bottle service. We loved the city, the hotel, the shopping and the food. One encounter with a rude local woman in town didn't effect how much we enjoyed our visit here. Would love to return to enjoy a longer visit.

“All the Right Stuff!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2010

Fabulous place to stay... thoughtful amenities that you don't see in other hotels like Damask napkins that were part of the beautiful breakfast in our room! The room was spacious and tastefully decorated - lots of windows - a really fun and contemporary place in a great location. A tram is available just steps away from the hotel that will take you to many attractions and a very discreet shopping center across the street. We just loved this hotel and would definitely stay again and again! Courteous friendly staff - secure parking available and very clean. A total winner!

“honeymoon treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

This hotel is a quirky hotel in a great location in Bordeaux. We were pleasantly surprised when we reached the hotel.....using the excellent tram system, we had only a few steps walk to the hotel. Across the road are fantastic shops, restaurants and bars in the newly rejuvenated quay/hangar area. On arrival, very late Friday night, we realised the hotel were including complimentary breakfast for our stay and had a bottle of champagne waiting for us. The room was like no other, very contempory decor and lighting system.....a change from the norm for two nights. The staff were brilliant and so helpful, recommending restaurants etc.
