“Beware! Website is deceiving!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2009

While looking for a hotel for a 1 night for sleep over in Bordeaux on our way to Barcelona, I found the Hotel de Seze on Frommer's. I looked over the website and it looked nice. As I was in a hurry to book something, I did not review tripadvisor.com first. Big mistake!

When we got there, we discovered 2 hotels were now combined. We thought we were in the wrong hotel because when we got to our room it looked nothing like the website. It was totally 70's vintage! When we asked the receptionist if we were in the right hotel, he said yes we had actually booked the Royal Medoc hotel instead. Nothing on the website indicated this! But, we went with it since it was one night.

The staff was actually very helpful and courteous. They allowed us to store our luggage after we checked out.

The room - loud street noise, beds were clean but old and bouncy, bathroom was hideous, no hairdryer, nasty old carpet, and the door lock was just the door handle lock (not even a chain door stop to secure it).

The location of the hotel and the staff were the only positive things about this hotel. It is in the middle of the town and close to the town rain system.

“It was inexpensive, but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2008

I am in the Wine Trade and went for the preview of the vintage. I was by myself and stayed 3 nights for what 1 night would cost at my usual place across the square. The staff is nice and it was not grand. I had breakfast once, go to a boulanger and get some pastry. I love France but wish they would discover Coffee to go, so you can drive to your destination with a nice Cafe au Lait. If your ok with just a basic room and don't expect much, they will not disapoint you. It was reasonable, and not much more. I might go back.

“Awful... stay away at all costs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2007

The information posted by the hotel on expedia was a complete fabrication. The internet connection and mini bar did not exist.. the complimentary news paper didn't exist.

The staff at check-in made no efforts whatsover. It was very much a case of "Here's your key, now f*** off".

If you are into dingy 1970's dark and dirty rooms, this is the hotel for you. The only plus point was that it was far nicer than the incredibly nasty bathroom attached. They really must have tried hard to get that much rust on the fixtures....

After two nights, I left am will be awaiting a reimbusement through expedia.

“Old fashioned but fantastic location”

I agree with previous reviews that the decor of this hotel is a little, well dated. Our rooms were definitely more 70s than 00s, but having said that the rooms were clean and comfortable and the beds were fine. Maybe it depends which way your room faces, but we weren't disturbed by the noise and we were there on a weekend during the rugby world cup with games shown at every location every night! Location is fantastic as you are within 5 mins walking distance of the riverside bars / cafes and also the main old town sights. There are plenty of lovely restauarants nearby and the tourist office is just around the corner for information on trips / wine tours etc. We actually found the staff to be really helpful and friendly with excellent English. Breakfast is pretty basic (rolls, croissants fruit and yoghurt), but optional and plenty of cafes nearby if you fancy something different. Not the most luxurious of places but excellent value for the location and plenty comfortable enough.

“the truth is.....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2007

how about a hotel with sour faced unfriendly staff, a room that is so small and pokey with windows you have to leave open for fear of suffocating leaving the noise from the street that you cannot sleep a wink all night, and a bed that is so uncomfortable that you try and sleep on the floor..... you go down to get a drink from the 24hr bar and no-one appears to serve you, you ask the guy on reception for a pen and he acts as though you have asked for a kidney, a place where you cannot relax (this is after booking their 'comfortable' room!) even though you are exhausted. Yes this is a '1970's 'themed' hotel, but i didnt actually think it was an original 1970's hotel with an excuse not to refurbish! if you are looking to bring someone to impress, this is not the place!
