“Felt Like we were not welcome - Owner was obnoxious”

The Hotel itself is quite nice set in its own courtyard trendy, but absolutely no atmosphere. When we arrived were shown to our standard room which absolutely stank of drains. When we asked if something could be done we, sure enough we were shown a couple of other rooms and decided to upgrade to a superior room. Having negotiated a new rate with the owners son we were relatively happy although there was still a feint smell in this room too. Long story short when we checked out the Owner tried to renegotiate the rate with us for a higher figure when we objected he got quite nasty and reverted to the rack rate.

I am not spitting my dummy out because I didnt get what I wanted it was genuinely the worst display of customer service I have ever experienced

Our only mistake was not agreeing the new rate in writing with the owners son

“We Liked La Maison Bordeaux”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

This hotel (which is much like an upscale North American B&B) is situated in a lovely old stone house and its stable, both inside a courtyard that is hidden from the street. It is about a 10 min. walk from the center of the old city, with the remains of a 2nd century Gallo-Roman amphitheatre a few buildings away. Our room (upstairs in the stable) was large as was its shower room - quite a contrast with the many Parisian hotels we have stayed in. We found the staff to be friendly and efficient; the continental breakfast was filling and typical of what we were served elsewhere in southwestern France - breads, juice, fruit, yogurt, prosciutto, cheese and excellent coffee. As this was our first trip to Bordeaux, we were interested in seeing as much of the old city as possible, and were out walking for most of our for 4 day visit. I suspect that a car would be a hinderance as the old streets are very narrow and parking is at a premium.
In summary our needs were relatively simple - we wanted a large comfortable room with breakfast, close to the city center, and preferably in a heritage setting. For us la Maison Bordeaux was a perfect fit.

“Great base for exploring Bordeaux”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

Trendy little place well hidden away in a residential area about 10 mins from the center. We liked it, as it felt nice to be in a slightly quieter area away from the main streets.

The hotel is in an old courtyard, but has been modernised well and we would describe it as 'boutique'. It therefore doesn't have a huge amount of the conveniences you would find in a big chain. However if you're not looking for more then that and just need a Bordeaux base, it's excellent.

The owners were extremely accommodating and friendly, especially when we wanted to leave our car in their private car park for a few hours after our check out.

We saw the mixed reviews on here, however we thought it a great little find, well suited for exploring Bordeaux and one we would definitely go back to when visiting the city again.

“Super Place To Stay In Bordeaux”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

The hotel is excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was superb.
The breakfast was top class but at €15 each I thought it was a little expensive so we only had it on the first morning.Much cheaper down town.

“An expensive exercise in sleep deprivation - Bord'don't!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

I write this from my orange painted room after a second night of noisy interruptions in what can only be described as an upmarket youth hostel. Our stuffy room called Melanie has no air-conditioning so you need to sleep with the window open and listen to the cars roaring down the street at all hours of the night. Along with the cars comes the endless procession of student revellers returning home after a very good night out. More annoyingly the manager of this place, whose office is next to our room, thinks it is perfectly ok to return at 4.45am, buzz himself into his office, slam the door and bang about looking for something then depart in the same manner. This place is certainly not run for the benefit of the guests! The room itself is a tragic orange which must have been chosen by a manic depressive as restful it is not. The bed linen is fine but the pillows are awful. The towels and dressing gowns are near exhaustion and, by the look of them, the complimentary slippers have been through the washing machine more than once. The separate toilet belongs at the back of a dreadful restaurant. Where the toilet roll holder used to be are two round stickers to cover up the screw holes. The toilet paper is cheap and nasty. The finishes in the room are all a little tired and the furnishings are depressing. The television is so cheap that the speaker can barely cope with low volume and there is no sign of the promised BBC channel. But the WIFI is free and works very well! The bathroom must have been designed by someone with no idea of spatial requirements with nowhere to put your wash bag and is finished in a horrible brown wood and of course that delightful orange. The whole place feels weird and unwelcoming. On arrival our GPS brought us to the door but as the hotel sign is so small and funky it was hidden by the parked cars. Second time around we found it and there was stressful 5 minutes as we were instructed to unload our luggage while double parked on a busy road. The manager then drove our car to the garage which was easily accessible at the back of the hotel so why the panic out the front? There was no welcome just a map of Bordeaux (the city) and the code we would need for the side door to get in or out. Up went our luggage to our room and that was it. We showed ourselves around this very strangely furnished place which seemed totally out of character with what one guide book described as a chateau with coach house in the city. It's a 15 minute walk to the centre so not exactly in the middle of the action. La Maison Bord'deaux has very limited appeal to a particular segment of the market and we aren't it and I suspect neither are most people. For us just a nightmare experience.
