“Eclectic”

It is outside the city centre but under fifteen minutes walk from the Vieille Ville. The discretion and charm of this old bordelais house is worth the off-centre location. The rooms are modern and very comfortably spacious. The dining area - you can get an evening meal by arrangement - are perhaps a little austere for some tastes. The acceuil is professional and agreeable.

“Modern Country-Living in the City”

Wonderful reception when we arrived. Owner Thierry was very helpful; we checked in quickly and early, he provided a map and gave us the lay of Bordeaux, he spoke in French and English and joked with us. Breakfast the next day was... Eh - for 15 Euros per person, I expected a little more. Room was amazing and comfortable, bathroom was spacious and toiletries were high quality. We enjoyed a bottle of wine in the courtyard and in the shared living room and the hotel was very welcoming. A perfect weekend away.

“Great boutique hotel, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Checked in to the La Maison Bordeaux on Oct. 28, 2011- was greeted very warmly by Thierry the owner- a very nice fellow. He had all our information although we had made a mistake & booked just 1 room for the 4 of us- he quickly fixed the problem & we got 2 rooms in the old stables just off the courtyard. Ours was #3 "Celia". Great sized rooms with large windows, cool, hip interiors with vibrant colors. Comfortable beds with nice crisp linens & good pillows. Great large bathroom & a separate WC. Fantastic water pressure in the "European" shower (meaning you have a wand that you hold- not affixed above you) Really nice toiletries (Hermes). Everything you need in the bathroom. Great lighting & magnifying mirrors for those that need them- as well as a hair dryer if needed. The 1 drawback I would have to our room was there wasnt a "bureau" per-say- but a dresser & above it a shelf with a rod to hang your clothes on- they were nice & fit in well with the decor & there were plenty of hangers- but I would put in a proper bureau so you could close off your hanging clothes & perhaps put the mini bar/fridge in it as well- a very small criticism. Other than that- the room was very comfortable. No A/C- but opening the windows was fine- its on a pretty quiet street & set back far enough that you dont hear anything. There is also a fan incase you need some air movement. It was fine.
We had breakfast on Saturday & it was a good continental breakfast, great fresh squeezed OJ & great espresso. Tasty fresh breads & fantastic mango jam. It was good. Thierry gets the bread daily so you have to advise if you will take the breakfast or not. The dining room was pretty cool as well- someone has a great eye for design & its well taken care of. Our flight home wasnt until later on Sunday so we checked out @ noon- they were more than happy to let us leave our cases there while we went on a tour of the Medoc region, bought a bottle of wine at one of the Chateaus & asked if we could hang out in the lounge until it was time to go. Thierry was gone but his son was happy to have us. He got us some nice glasses & a corkscrew & was very attentive. He also had some great music playing in the lounge. There wasnt that sense of "they have already checked out & are no longer guests" he was very attentive & happy. We were happy to have a great bottle of red, in the cool lounge & listen to great music & relive our great weekend in Bordeaux. The apple doesnt fall from the tree as his son has learned great hospitality from his dad. We will stay here again for the great service, great location (about a 10 min walk to the center of town- also great patisseries around the hotel).

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the old stables.

“Nice..but just a few bits missing!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Reading many of the reviews before booking it seemed on the whole that this boutique hotel would tick the boxes as required, and on the whole it does.

Nice quiet location, although finding it would not be easy if you didn't have a map or knowledgeable taxi driver, the sign for the hotel is tiny with no obvious entrance. However we found it and on entering through the grey metal doors were pleasantly surprised. Everyone was happy, friendly and accomodating and the interior was quite charming.

The hotel offers all that is required for a couple of nights stay in a beautiful city, it just has some bits missing. Stopped in the room at the top of the hotel with the balcony, but there is no view unless you are 7' tall and like rooftops, a bit pointless really. Great decor if you like modern stuff, and very light thanks to the large windows. Bathroom great but although there is a shower over the bath, there is no holder for the shower head hence you have to hold it...not a major problem, but I don't have 3 hands! The toilet is separate from the the bathroom which is fine, but there is no ventilation and it is so so hot and pretty uncomfortable because of this...with a very loud, squeeky door...not good at 3.00am! Tea and coffee making facilities....but no milk of any description. Digital TV with an abundance of channels...but nothing British just for a bit of something in the background.

We didn't do breakfast, the mini bar or dinner. As nice as it all looked they were all seriously expensive and there are an adundance of cafe's, restaurants, bars etc all within a few minutes walk that offer it all at a much nicer price with a view of this wonderful city.

So guys at La Maison Bordeux, you are nearly there, but for my £180 a night I want just those few inexpensive bits that are missing putting right, especially the over priced 30 euro continental breakfast for two... it will make all the difference.

“Lovely Hotel in a terrific location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We had a large, quiet, modern room, with comfortable bed and a huge walk-out balcony. The bathroom had 2 sinks and a tub + shower, with plush towels and designer toiletries. Our host, Thierry was charming, gracious and ever-helpful. We had a car, which he would park and deliver to us faster than any valet at any upscale hotel I've ever stayed in. The breakfast was good and if the weather permits, one can sit in a private courtyard. The location of the hotel was a 10 to 15 minute walk to all significant sights and restaurants, and Bordeaux is a great city on its own, not mind the easy day trips to the vineyards in Medoc, Graves, St Emilion and other surrounding attractions, such as Arcachon and the great Pila sand dune. It made for a perfect holiday and I'd return there in a heartbeat!
