“Good location, poor surroundings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Good location close to all of the attractions in central Bordeaux, pity it felt as if we were staying in the middle of a housing commission estate with poor lighting, and barren park land around the block - a little bit intimidating at night.

Apartment itself was clean and warm though a little basic.

Reception staff polite and helpful.

Good parking below the apartment provided.

“An average hotel in a great location!”

If your next expecting great things from this hotel, you will not be disappointed for paying $96 Euro per night. We stayed in room 714 on the 7th floor in a twin room with a balcony. The bathroom was clean and function, the beds comfortable, linens clean and small kitchenette was functional. The upside to this hotel is its proximity to Bordeaux central, a short 3-5 minute stroll across the park. Shopping and supermarket within easy reach makes this an ideal short stay option. Breakfast was not worth $6 euro and parking per day was an extra $9.
Note we could not find air-conditioning in our room. Be sure to check before booking if staying in summer. Also note that some of the smaller rooms have sofa beds and not real beds!

Room Tip: Be sure to book a real bed (not a sofa bed). Avoid in-house breakfast. Take a lack of air-conditio...

“An unpleasant experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

We only stayed here because the Adagio was full, never again. It's obvious why the Adagio ranks so highly, and the Citadines so lowly,in Bordeaux.

The receptionist at check-in was one of those people who obviously don't enjoy their work. I spoke in passable French, but he immediately adopted that smug and supercilious attitude that fortunately is much less common in France than years ago. Please and thank you were obviously words foreign to his vocabulary,a patronising smile being his forte. When he gave me the room card he told me it also worked the parkade gate, but not that it was necessary to use it for exiting.

. On arriving by car there is no obvious contact at the parkade gate to gain entrance. The parkade is very cramped and what is worse there is no motion detector to raise the gate on exiting. Nobody told us this and we were fortunate that an hotel employee was around to find an electronic card to open the gate.

There is no a/c which is not much of a problem in late October, but must be awful in summer. The location is not very good, with the CDG esplanade behind being a popular venue for street people. Avoid at night.

The Adagio is much better situated for Mériadeck and the place Gambetta etc. It is a/c and the staff are polite and friendly. The parkade entrance has a speaker whereby the staff can open the gate remotely.

“Disappointed and unnerved”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

I stayed for three nights in this establishment. My travel agent suggested it as it's price, for an apartment, was the same as a hotel room. There is a reason for this. I thought it was very tired - the carpets and floors were stained and the couch was so stained I didn't want to sit on it without a towel! The breakfast was the meanest of all breakfasts I had in a month in Europe. But the worst of all, contrary to a number of the reviews, is this place is central to the commercial district, not the main city of Bordeaux. So if you arrive on a Sunday, as I did, there is nothing there. It is a ten minute walk into the city and the lovely looking park is inhabited by derelicts and drunks - an extremely unpleasant experience for a woman on her own.

“Very disappointing....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

We arrived at the apart-hotel (a title it doesn't entirely deserve... it is essentially a standard hotel room, with a 'kitchen area' the size of a stamp) late on the first evening and after opening the door to our room we were straight away disappointed. My partner and I stayed in an apartment for 2, which provided a sofa bed. I have no problem with this as such other than this meant that whilst the bed was out, our small table/desk and chairs were unusable. The room was just too small for the furniture provided which made living in the room inconvenient and awkward. The apart-hotel is self-catered accommodation and the catering facilities provided were poor. We had 1 fork and 1 mug. After requesting a second one of each thing at reception, the man on the desk gave us a fork from the hotel staff room and told us the mug would have to wait... we eventually received it 6 days alter, despite reminding reception staff several times. The kitchen came complete with 2 hob rings. However the 2 pans provided in our room were too big for the rings and could not fit on together, meaning we could only ever use one pan to cook. We also had no working kitchen light and our kitchen sink had a major leak. The bathroom was clean, but the shower curtain was stained, stuck together and mouldy. The sheets were not clean on arrival. There was a large coffee stain on them and several long black hairs. We also had no quilt! We were provided with nothing more than a blanket... which may I add had clearly not been washed in months - it smelt awful. There were also no pillow cases provided. Our internet in the bedroom did not work and the connection strength in the hotel lobby and breakfast room was extremely poor (when it worked, which more than often it did not). The phone in our room was also broken. The hotel does provide a central location, however, the immediate area that it is situated in was also inhabited by homeless and drunk people throughout the day and night. This was often quite intimidating. Several of the nearby buildings are under renovation - whilst I acknowledge this is no fault of the hotel - the noise was constant, from around 6am until late at night and very disrupting. The most off-putting thing about this hotel were the paving tiles which surround it. Many of them were cracked, broken or even missing, which proposed a severe danger to people using the hotel and the area around it. They are extremely dangerous and we witnessed this one evening when an elderly gentleman fell face first after tripping on one of them, badly cutting open his face, arms and hands. Their condition was appalling. Never again will we stay here, nor will the other 28 people in our party.

Room Tip: If there are 2 of you staying here, request a double room with 2 twin beds... the double bed is a so...
