“A Rip Off Jojnt with Very Rude Staff!”

From the outset, this hotel was not welcoming as a surly young lady checked us in without a smile. The dining area, an unattractive room which is part of the lobby was empty except for a table of well-fed gentlemen in suits who turned out to be hotel's owners and guests. the one waitress on duty was busy opening bottles of expensive wine for them to taste and completely ignored us. When she finally came over, she threw the cutlery on the table. The main course and the dessert were grudgingly dumped in front of us in the same fashion. But the real problems started the next morning: A notice in the elevator advertised a breakfast for 7 euros -- reduced from 8 euros served in the bar. My parents sat in the bar but were ignored by the same girl who served us the night before. As the breakfast buffet was set out a few feet from them at the 'dining area' -- which was in no way was marked or discernible as a separate room, they went in and had the two croissants and coffee that formed part the 7 euro deal. At checkout, we first discovered we had been charged an extra 5 euros for a glass of wine which had been actually included with one of the dinners. The girl at the desk had also been the waitress from the night before and knew what we had chosen from the menu. We then had driven off and while rechecking the bill in the car, found that we had been charged 14 euros for the two breakfasts of coffee and croissants! When I returned to have the mistake rectified, the check out girl screamed at me that my parents had eaten in the dining room and therefore had to pay the 'full rate'. Breakfast had been self service, nothing had been set up in the bar, just a few feet from the dining 'area' and my parents had limited their breakfast choices to the cheaper options foregoing the bacon, eggs and other dishes that had been on offer. I believe that the breakfast arrangements are set up to trap guests and rip them off. Above all, the attitude of this hotel staff member was atrocious. I would advise travellers to 'Évitez ce repaire de voleurs'!

“Great hotel for overnight stay near to the station.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

This is an excellent hotel of its type, fully modernized and very clean, with friendly staff. Good restaurant but breakfast not as good as at the Mercure Chateaux Chartrons. Good location next to Tram stop and within walking distance of station.

“Close to train station, OK room, need staff training”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

The hotel is close to the main train station but it's in an area that I felt rather unsafe at night time. There was wifi in the hotel but getting it to work took a while since the staff did not speak any English (the one at the front desk) and insisted on speaking French to us. The hotel room was fair and got every thing you need but TV had no Eng channel and it was not very close to town. It is a good hotel for if you have a train to catch the next morning but definitely would stay somewhere closer to the sites next time! One good thing is that it is very quiet around for a good night sleep.

“quiet and clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Picked for location near Gare St Jean for early morning train to Paris. Easy, cheap tram outside the door to downtown Bordeaux which negates the somewhat sleazy neighbourhood of the hotel's location. Room was quiet, clean and modern with great bathroom. Good, helpful staff on the front desk, good wi-fi connection.

“Faultless hotel, close to the UNESCO sites, and excellent value.”

This is a wonderful modern hotel, and Mercure have obviously invested a lot of money during the renovations in 2010. The staff were all very welcoming, and the room facilities can not be faulted. The hotel is 500m from the Gare Saint Jean, and has a tram station outside, however the rooms are double glazed and air conditioned so street noise is minimal. The UNESCO site is within walking distance of the hotel, so is ideal for a weekend break in the city.
