Just had an extremely pleasant stay at the Hotel Mercure Chateau Chartrons. The rooms were very comfortable...wonderful sleep-inducing beds, and modern, clean bathrooms with both bath and shower. Breakfast was very comprehensive: if they've run out of freshly squeezed orange juice it is because my husband and I could not get enough of it. All excellent. The service was friendly and helpful. Good English spoken willingly at reception, not always something one finds in France. They offer very secure underground parking at 10euros/night but we were able to park easily on the street (free) three of the four nights we stayed there. The hotel is not very close to a tramline but is fairly central. We had hired a car and it took us less than ten minutes (with the awful Bordeaux traffic system of traffic lights every fifty metres!) to get to Gambetta. We got an excellent room rate through the travelrepublic website: almost 25% lower than other websites with breakfast included, and the hotel was well worth that rate. It's not a five star hotel but I've given it five stars for comfort and service and because it was well worth the rate we paid.
