We too had problems with arrival. The problem is that the owners of the B&B dont live there - its a house where they rent out the rooms. We had specified what date we were arriving, called to say we were coming in the morning. I rang all day, at hourly intervals, and just got the answering machine. We changed our plans for the day because we couldn't check in when we wanted. I finally received a phone call that evening (when we were on our way back to Strasbourg to try to find a hotel), and a young couple turned up to greet us at the same time as we arrived. We were surprised to find out that they were not the B&B owners (and not Christophe who I had spoken to on the phone). We still dont know who they were, and the male of the couple (who was more helpful) said he was just there to help his girlfriend. Not exactly the warm welcome that was advertised. The house is beautiful and so are the rooms (we had the Pistache). House is not suitable for people with mobility issues as the bedrooms are all upstairs. Some other key points:
* breakfast was good, with cereal, baguette, croissant, jams, tea/coffee, prepared by the female of the couple who came back in the morning
* soap pump at basin didnt work
* blinds were broken and wouldnt close properly
* there is some car noise from the street - not good if you're a light sleeper
* house is in a very boring, non-descript, almost industrial area. Not close to city (although tram just outside: beware the limited operating times). We didnt feel very secure on the street.
* bunk bed had holes in the sheets
* kitchen was dirty, with empty juice and milk bottles on the sink
* there is a gorgeous cat residing in the house! I asked our female host what the name of the cat was and she said she didnt know......
* we asked for restaurant recommendations for that evening but it appeared to me that either they didnt know Strasbourg/werent willing to help and they couldnt give us any suggestions (thank goodness for the GPS restaurant recommendations! We loved "Tapas Cafe" near the petite france area!). When we returned home that evening I found a non-descript black folder on a black tray (not exactly obvious) in the room - which turned out to be the B&B's guide book, including a list of recommended restaurants. I also later found restaurant and tourist guidebooks in the loungeroom (look in the box under the coffee table!)
* the shower was not hot and the holes in the showerhead were blocked
* the bathroom door jams against the tiles so that it isnt possible to open it fully
* there is no free wifi
* beware the stuffed animal heads on the loungeroom wall....I'm sure their eyes followed me around the room (lol)
* the sign on the gate says that they are a recommended hotel in the Michelin Guide 2009......
It wasnt an awful experience, but it certainly wasnt a good one. OK, the price is good, but I honestly would have preferred to just stay in a basic hotel in the city centre.
