basic hotel, clean and good price. staff helpful
not a hotel to spend too much time in the room, tv is small and not always working
free wifi is provided, but it does not always work...

Having read some infavourable reviews on this hotel, I had little doubts as to my choice to stay there for 4 nights during my recent Strasbourg trip. Luckily, the hotel turned out to deserve his two stars, even though its real standard would clearly not go beyond that. The room I was given was quite tiny (a normal standard in France...), looked a little outdated, but had what is necessary for one person to have: a small desk, a place to hang or put on the clothes and a small bathroom with WC. What was good about the hotel was a free wi-fi that even worked, if I was patient and smart enough to leave my room and wander along the floor with my laptop to catch the connection somewhere between the elevator and the staircase...:)
I did not take the breakfast option therefore, no opinion on the food.
All in all, a hotel worth considering, mainly due to its good location (where the city center and its nice old architecture stop, giving way to ugly blocks of houses) and an excellent connection to both the old city and the European instututions where I happen to work...

the hotel is situated right next to the main tram line which is brilliant for access to the city. Parking is very poor, 6 places at most in front of hotel, and available as and when cars move off, otherwise its basically street parking...not my idea of secure parking. Wi-Fi availability, very very poor and so slow as to make it virtually impossible to surf the web. Room itself was clean and quite modern, although both washbasin and toilet had suffered damage requiring them to be glued back together. bed was very, very soft and spongey, not very comfortable at all. cannot comment on breakfast as we did not bother, but if like the rest of the hotel description then i would expect a below adequate quality.

Well, it's the second time I stay in Hotel Esplanade and I really, really, can't understand why people keep complaining that much about the place.

The staff is absolutely kind, the rooms I stayed were always very clean, with excelent beds! I agree that there's a lot of noise you can hear from the other rooms... the only problem I can find. But it's not THAT bad as people are describing.

Maybe I got lucky, but both rooms I stayed seemed to have been refurbished...

The bathroom is huge, speacially compared to other hotels in France. If you go for an Ibis, for instance, you can never expect to get that much comfort and space for all your stuff.

Also, the price is very good! I spent 48 EUR per day. Fantastic.

It's located a little away from the historical center, but nothing that a walking of 10 min can't fix. Or, in the lazy days, you can get the tramway very close to the hotel (kind of 20 meters from the entrance) and get to the center in about 5 min.

Oh, and there's FREE wi-fi in the roooms.

I would strongly recommend this hotel.
