“Great location, great price - but not the Ritz”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

Hotel prices in Strasbourg seemed to be more expensive than Paris, and finding a venue to spend the night in the city centre will not be cheap. However, if you are not too fussy with your room amenities, then this hotel offers good value.
Located within 300m of the cathedral, and in a buzzing square, the hotel has an excellent location. Its only visible entrance is a doorway to the left of the 'Cafe des Arts', so keep your eyes open for this.
Reception closes at 9pm, and thereafter there is a number that you ring that gets through to either the owner or manager who lives nearby. Staff are efficient and friendly.
The rooms are clean and basic, and our toilet/shower was tiny. Our shower/toilet room was also old, and smelled musty and damp, so we kept the door firmly closed.
If the room was expensive, I would have left a lower rating for the hotel. However, as the other alternatives were much more expensive, I feel this has to be taken into consideration - you only get what you want to pay for. Do not use this place if you are into 4 star treatment.
Don't even try to park near the centre of Strasbourg - park out of town and get a tram or bus.

“Excellent location. Allright hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

Strasbourg seemed to be full on my arrival and I was lucky to find a room in this hotel. The reception area is very modern. My room was on the third floor. It was very large with a private bathroom. It had two beds and a table, and felt pretty empty. The bathroom was strange with a shower that had apparently been added in. There was very little room to get in and out, or past it to the toilet. It was quiet and the bed was good. The location is very convenient, right in the centre about 5 minutes walk from the cathedral. There is a cafe right outside, and plenty of other, rather touristy places around. WiFi is available for free but it didn't work properly in my room. My bike could go into a storage room on the first floor however this required some negotiations with the receptionist. It was a good place for the night, especially due to its superb location, drawbacks are minor. I did not have breakfast there.

“Very good value in excellent lopcation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

I have stayed here many times. The hotel has been redecorated etc. and represents very good value for money close to the cathedral. Rooms on the top floor are biggter and better than some but not for the less mobile as there is no lift. Breakfast is satisfactory, good coffee. Breakfast room a little small. Bed comfort much better tham nay i.e.l not hard as rocks as is often the case. Free wi-fi and nice staff. I paid 50 euros plus breakfast and that for a double room with good size bathroom though on my own.

Room Tip: Bigger rooms on 3rd floor but no lift

“Excellent value hotel well placed in the pedestrian area of the old town”

If you want simple accommodation within easy walking distance of the cathedral, restaurants etc but not in the party area, this is the place for you. staff were friendly and obliging, breakfast was on the money and the room was quiet. The only disadvantage was the very small bathroom. You would need to be quite slim!

“Tiny cramped room with terrible furnishings”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2009

We stayed for just one night in the Citadel des Arts having booked for two. I found the room very dingy and old fashioned. It was cramped and you had to squeeze round the washbasin to get to the loo. OK so the surrounding area is picturesque, the inside definitely is not. The only concession made to its name "des arts" were some Matisse prints on the walls! The breakfast room was poky and they charged 6 euros for what looked very basic fare. Not liking a/c we had to have the window open and it was very noisy. We moved to the Best Western Metropole hotel in Strasbourg which, for only 10 euros more a night, included a full buffet breakfast and had style.
