We stayed for two nights at this hotel and it was just perfect. We had a small room but it was clean, good bed, cosy and very affordable. The breakfast wasn't the best but standard french breakfast. Very sentral and just 5 min away from the old town.

Le Grand Hotel had the last remaining room in the city centre for the last week-end of the famed Christmas market. Hence the choice was easy.

The location is definitely the best thing about this property, situated across from the train station, 3 minutes drive to the entrance/exit of the A35 highway, and a 10-minute walk to the historic city centre. A parking near the station lets hotel customers stay at severely discounted prices, which is an excellent thing.

The good: excellent location; friendly staff; breakfast included; good coffee; good soundproofing; very clean; large rooms, large bathrooms, hair drier, good heating, very hot water. Efficient room cleaning.

The not-so-good: the rooms are antiquated, with cheap and sparse furniture; breakfast buffet is basic; no in-room safe. Rooms lock/unlock with a single key.

The bad: double bed is 2 singles pushed together with a big gap in between; mattress very old, excessively soft, and worn (U-shaped). Unfortunately this doesn't make for a good night's sleep.

Conclusion: there are surely better deals in this area (the whole train station square is lined with hotels) for the price: average 200 Euro per night. In this reviewer's opinion, it's worth a good 30% to 40% less.

But OK, it's Christmas time, and as stated in the intro, the goal was to be in the city for that period - so all in all it was adequate. I would recommend booking well in advance and getting better prices.

The hotel is situated vis-à-vis the train station and only about 5-10 minutes away from the city centre. Although there was a huge square right next to the hotel, it was quiet and no noises disturbed our sleep. While the room was small itself, the bathroom was quite spacious. Everything was clean and worked properly. We were amazed by the huge variety at the breakfast buffet. Bread, fresh fruits, cereal, etc. were nicely arranged and staff constantly added or filled up food and drinks. It was a pleasure staying there and we can recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Strasbourg.
